CID Conducts Simultaneous Searches at Trinamool Offices Linked to Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata, June 2026 : The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police on Tuesday carried out parallel search operations at two prominent Trinamool Congress offices in Kolkata, including the party office adjacent to the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Kalighat and another office on Camac Street that has been associated with Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

The coordinated action comes amid an ongoing investigation into alleged discrepancies involving signatures of certain Trinamool Congress legislators on a key resolution related to important positions in the West Bengal Assembly that are traditionally reserved for members of the Opposition.

At the Kalighat party office, CID officials initially faced resistance from former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Subhasish Chakraborty, who claimed to be temporarily overseeing the premises. Chakraborty reportedly refused to allow the investigators entry when they first arrived at the location.

The situation changed after a large contingent of security personnel, including members of the Kolkata Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), reached the spot. With additional security in place, CID officers entered the premises and began their search operation despite continued objections from Chakraborty and several supporters present at the location.

A similar situation unfolded at the Camac Street office, where CID officials also encountered resistance from staff members when they attempted to enter the premises. However, police personnel from the local Shakespeare Sarani Police Station soon arrived at the scene, following which investigators gained access to the office and commenced their inquiry.

Sources indicated that the searches at both locations were being conducted simultaneously as part of the same investigation. At the time of reporting, officials continued to examine documents and other materials at both offices.

The raids assumed added significance because Abhishek Banerjee had been directed to appear before CID officials at Bhabani Bhavan, the state police headquarters in south Kolkata, by 5 p.m. on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the case. This was reportedly the third consecutive notice issued to him by the investigating agency regarding the alleged signature mismatch matter.

The investigation centres on allegations that signatures of some Trinamool Congress legislators on a crucial Assembly-related resolution did not match official records, prompting CID to launch a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the issue.

Meanwhile, both Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee were reported to be in New Delhi. The two leaders attended the meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc on Monday, where leaders of several opposition parties gathered to discuss political and parliamentary strategy.

The simultaneous searches at locations linked to two of the Trinamool Congress’s most prominent leaders have attracted significant political attention and are likely to intensify the ongoing debate surrounding the investigation. Authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the findings of the raids, and further developments are expected as the probe progresses.
