Jaishankar Highlights Transformation of Indian Diplomacy Under PM Modi’s Leadership
New Delhi, June 2026 : External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Tuesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating that India’s foreign policy and the functioning of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) have undergone a remarkable transformation over the past 12 years. As the Modi government prepares to complete 12 years in office on June 10, Jaishankar highlighted a series of reforms and initiatives that, he said, have strengthened India’s global standing and improved services for citizens at home and abroad.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Jaishankar said the government has focused on making diplomatic services more accessible and citizen-centric. He noted that obtaining passports and document attestations has become significantly easier and more efficient, reducing bureaucratic hurdles for millions of Indians.
The External Affairs Minister emphasized that the MEA has expanded its support network for Indians living overseas through Indian missions and embassies around the world. He said the increased use of the Indian Community Welfare Fund has enabled the government to provide timely assistance to citizens facing difficulties abroad. Digital platforms for grievance redressal and public feedback have also been introduced, making communication with the ministry faster and more transparent.
Jaishankar highlighted India’s response to several international crises, saying the government had successfully evacuated Indian nationals from conflict zones and emergency situations in countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Sudan and Israel. These operations, he said, reflected India’s commitment to protecting its citizens wherever they may be.
The minister also underlined the role of diplomacy in expanding employment opportunities for Indians globally. According to him, the government has signed 21 mobility partnerships with different countries, helping Indian professionals gain greater access to international job markets. He added that the MEA has actively supported Indian businesses in securing market access overseas and boosting exports.
Jaishankar said India’s diplomatic efforts have facilitated the entry of Indian products and services into new markets while also supporting development projects in partner countries. He noted that welfare measures for Indian students studying abroad have been strengthened, ensuring better support and assistance whenever required.
The minister further stated that the government has worked consistently to promote Indian culture, heritage and traditions on the global stage. He said these efforts have enhanced international appreciation of India’s rich civilizational legacy and strengthened people-to-people ties with countries around the world.
Highlighting the expansion of India’s diplomatic footprint, Jaishankar said 44 new embassies and consulates have been opened during the Modi government’s tenure to better serve Indians living, working and travelling abroad. “Indian diplomacy works 24/7 for the nation. Indians travel abroad today with greater confidence and a stronger sense of pride,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi is set to complete 12 years in office on June 10, marking a significant political milestone. Since first taking oath as Prime Minister in 2014, he has secured successive electoral victories in 2019 and 2024, becoming one of India’s longest-serving leaders.
According to official calculations, Modi will surpass India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, in terms of continuous tenure as an elected Prime Minister, reaching 4,399 consecutive days in office. While Nehru served from 1947 onward, his tenure before the first general elections in 1952 was as head of the interim government. Modi’s uninterrupted period as an elected Prime Minister now stands as one of the longest in independent India’s history.
Jaishankar said the achievements of the past 12 years demonstrate how proactive diplomacy, citizen-focused governance and strategic international engagement have contributed to enhancing India’s influence and reputation across the world.
