Revanth Reddy Challenges BJP, BRS to Debate Governance Record; Unveils Vision for Hyderabad’s Future

Hyderabad, June 2026 : Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday threw down a political challenge to both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), stating that he is prepared to participate in an open debate comparing the achievements of his government over the past 30 months with the decade-long rule of the BRS in Telangana and the 12-year tenure of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.

Addressing a public gathering after laying the foundation stones for the proposed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and several other development projects, the Chief Minister said his government’s performance could withstand public scrutiny and invited opposition leaders to discuss their respective contributions to Telangana’s development.

Revanth Reddy questioned the role of BJP leaders and Members of Parliament from Telangana, particularly after the party secured eight Lok Sabha seats from the state. He argued that despite the electoral support received from Telangana, the BJP had failed to secure substantial benefits or financial assistance for the state.

“BJP leaders are asking what our government has achieved in two years. I am ready to discuss what we have done. At the same time, they should explain what they have brought to Telangana after winning eight parliamentary seats. Let us openly debate who has truly worked for the development of the state,” he said.

The Chief Minister accused Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and other BJP MPs from Telangana of creating hurdles in securing Central funds for various state development projects. He alleged that whenever the state government sought assistance from the Centre, certain BJP leaders worked against Telangana’s interests.

Drawing a comparison with development projects in Gujarat, Revanth Reddy said that while the Centre had supported initiatives such as the Sabarmati Riverfront project, objections were being raised against Telangana’s ambitious Musi River rejuvenation project. He questioned what he described as the discriminatory treatment towards Telangana’s developmental aspirations.

The Chief Minister also claimed that Kishan Reddy frequently met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers immediately after Telangana submitted representations on key issues. He demanded an explanation for these meetings and suggested that the Union Minister was attempting to obstruct the state’s efforts to secure support from the Centre.

Warning of political consequences, Revanth Reddy said the people of Telangana would not tolerate attempts to block the state’s progress and would respond through the democratic process if such actions continued.

At the same time, he urged both former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Kishan Reddy to offer constructive suggestions for Telangana’s development instead of engaging in political confrontation. He remarked that governance should focus on public welfare rather than what he termed “arrogance and corruption.”

Highlighting his government’s urban development agenda, Revanth Reddy announced that construction of an international bus terminal spread across 100 acres at Gajularamaram would commence within the next three months. He said the government would dedicate the next two years entirely to development initiatives across Hyderabad and Telangana.

The Chief Minister explained that Hyderabad’s rapid growth required long-term planning and efficient governance structures. To meet future needs, the city had been divided into three municipal corporations, with clearly defined administrative boundaries aimed at improving coordination between civic authorities and law enforcement agencies.

He emphasised that Hyderabad must evolve into a truly global city through tangible infrastructure development rather than merely adopting the label. As part of this vision, the government is implementing the second phase of the Metro Rail project and constructing one lakh houses for low- and middle-income families within the city.

Revanth Reddy also highlighted several welfare initiatives undertaken by his government, including the breakfast scheme for students from school to Intermediate level, free bus travel for women in state-run RTC buses, establishment of women-run commercial stalls under the Indira Mahila Shakti programme, and the allocation of petrol pumps to women entrepreneurs.

Additionally, he said the government is establishing Young India Residential Schools and Telangana Public Schools to provide quality education opportunities to students from economically weaker sections, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to inclusive development and social empowerment.
