Lucknow, January 2026 :<\/strong> With the objective of curbing road accidents and minimising loss of life, the Transport Department is observing Road Safety Month across the state. The Road Safety Month, being held from January 1 to January 31, features extensive public awareness campaigns and workshops at the district and divisional levels. Through these workshops, the Transport Department is providing training and information on traffic rules. Participants are also being given detailed information about the \u2018Cashless Treatment Facility\u2019 and the \u2018Rahveer Scheme\u2019. Simultaneously, enforcement action through challans is being carried out to inculcate the habit of following traffic rules among citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workshops organised to raise awareness about traffic rules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh said that during Road Safety Month, people are being sensitised about traffic rules through workshops conducted at district and divisional levels. The training workshops being organised across various districts and divisions include participation from Disaster Mitras, Civil Defence volunteers, NCC cadets, voluntary organisations such as CIA, Dealers\u2019 Associations, Scouts and Guides, along with traffic police personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n

In these workshops, emphasis is being laid on the mandatory use of BIS-certified helmets for both two-wheeler riders and pillion riders. Car drivers and co-passengers are also being made aware of the compulsory use of seat belts for safety. Participants are advised not to use mobile phones while driving and to strictly avoid driving under the influence of alcohol to prevent accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special focus is being placed on youth, encouraging them to refrain from stunts, rash driving and over-speeding, and motivating them to drive safely and patiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport Commissioner Kinjal Singh further said that participants in the Transport Department\u2019s workshops are being given detailed information about the \u2018Cashless Treatment Facility\u2019 and the \u2018Rahveer Scheme\u2019 for victims injured in road accidents, so that timely assistance can help save lives. Along with spreading awareness about traffic rules, youth are also being encouraged to become \u2018guardians\u2019 of traffic safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enforcement action against traffic rule violations<\/h3>\n\n\n

To instil discipline and adherence to traffic rules among citizens, the Transport Department is undertaking strict enforcement action. Between January 1 and January 21, challans have been issued for various violations, including 49,500 cases for not wearing helmets, 11,740 for not using seat belts, 15,180 for over-speeding, 4,164 for using mobile phones while driving, 304 for driving under the influence of alcohol, and 5,546 for driving on the wrong side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, a statewide \u2018No Helmet, No Fuel\u2019 campaign is being conducted throughout Road Safety Month. Continuous action is also being taken against wrong parking and unfit vehicles, under which more than 89,992 challans have been issued so far, helping to raise awareness and promote compliance with traffic rules among the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
