This initiative not only ensures nutritious food for children but also provides them with practical knowledge about nature, labour, and farming, helping them become self-reliant.

In Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district, schools in Ramanujganj have launched a distinctive kitchen garden initiative that is giving a new direction to both child nutrition and practical education. Implemented under the guidance of the District Education Officer and the supervision of the Block Education Officer, the kitchen garden at the Patrapali Secondary School has emerged as an inspiring example of nutritional strengthening.

Developed within the school premises under the guidance of teachers, this garden regularly produces fresh and nutritious vegetables, which are included in the mid-day meal to provide additional nutrition to students. As part of this initiative, students enthusiastically harvested around four kilograms of fresh sem (beans) from the kitchen garden today.

The children actively participated in activities such as caring for plants, watering, weeding, and harvesting. Through this hands-on involvement, they not only understood the value of hard work but also gained practical knowledge about agriculture and the environment. Teacher Yogesh Sahu said that the primary objective of this initiative is to provide nutritious food to students, spread awareness about organic farming, and connect them with experiential learning. The use of fresh vegetables has significantly improved both the quality and nutritional value of the mid-day meal, with clearly visible positive effects on children’s health.

The school family believes that such activities help develop a love for nature, a sense of responsibility, and self-reliance among children. On this occasion, teachers Krishnakumar Yadav, Anita Singh, Yogesh Sahu, and Raghunath Jaiswal, along with parents and members of the local community, were present. Parents praised the initiative taken by the school management and teachers, stating that such programmes are extremely beneficial for both the health and future of children.

The school administration has resolved to continue cultivating various seasonal vegetables in the kitchen garden in the future as well, so that children continue to receive both nutrition and knowledge on an ongoing basis.

Raipur, February 2026 : Children are receiving nutritious food directly from the school garden. “From the school garden to the plate” is a unique initiative under which students consume fresh, organic vegetables grown within the school परिसर directly as part of their mid-day meal.
