Washington, Feb 2026 : Former US Vice President Kamala Harris<\/strong> has launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump<\/strong> following his latest State of the Union address, accusing him of misleading Americans on critical issues ranging from the economy and healthcare to voting rights and foreign policy toward Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking a day after the address on \u201cThe Parnas Perspective,\u201d hosted by Aaron Parnas<\/strong> on his Substack show, Harris said she watched Trump\u2019s speech in full and found it disconnected from the lived realities of ordinary Americans. \u201cI watched it. It was full of lies,\u201d Harris said bluntly, adding that when the President was not, in her view, misrepresenting facts, his remarks resembled \u201cour kids going to show and tell at school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harris firmly rejected Trump\u2019s claim that the \u201cstate of the union is strong,\u201d arguing that such an assessment ignores the daily struggles faced by millions of families. \u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d she said. \u201cSo many are suffering under the weight of high prices, unaffordable health care, and unaffordable housing.\u201d According to Harris, the administration\u2019s rhetoric stands in stark contrast to conditions on the ground, particularly for low- and middle-income Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To underscore her point, Harris recounted recent visits to several southern states, where she said she witnessed deep economic hardship. She described meeting a mother in Mississippi who manages a weekly grocery budget of just $150 for a family of four. \u201cAnything that was in the cart was going to be for her kids,\u201d Harris said, recalling that the woman told her she would eat \u201cwhatever they don\u2019t eat.\u201d Harris added that the mother was forced to buy bottled water because the tap water in her community was unsafe to drink. \u201cShe walked over to get bottled water because she can\u2019t drink tap water because the water is brown and toxic. This is America,\u201d Harris said, calling the situation unacceptable in a developed nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Vice President also criticised what she described as the administration\u2019s skewed spending priorities. She took aim at proposed cuts to social welfare programmes, particularly Medicaid, while highlighting tax relief for the wealthiest Americans. \u201cWho\u2019s it roaring for when you put a $1 trillion cut to Medicaid?\u201d Harris asked. \u201cMeanwhile, a $1 trillion tax cut for the richest people in America. That\u2019s what\u2019s happening in our country right now.\u201d She argued that such policies deepen inequality and leave vulnerable populations with fewer protections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On voting rights, Harris strongly opposed the SAVE Act, which Trump has urged Congress to pass. She warned that the measure would place new barriers on voter registration by requiring proof such as a birth certificate or passport. \u201cAbsolutely not,\u201d she said, claiming that a significant portion of Americans do not possess these documents. Harris characterised the proposal as part of broader efforts to suppress voter participation. \u201cWe are witnessing attempts to suppress and obstruct the ability of people to vote,\u201d she said, warning that \u201cpowerful forces\u201d are \u201cintentionally attempting to destroy our democracy and the voice of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning to foreign policy, Harris raised serious concerns about escalating tensions with Iran. She criticised Trump\u2019s past claims that Iran\u2019s nuclear programme had been completely dismantled, calling those assertions \u201ccomplete and utter BS.\u201d Harris warned that the deployment of additional American troops to the region carried a \u201cvery real potential\u201d of armed conflict. \u201cThe American people do not want another war and do not want our sons and daughters sent to initiate action that is and can be avoided,\u201d she said. She also noted that key US allies reportedly disagree with the administration\u2019s approach, cautioning that strained alliances could undermine national security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked about the 2024 presidential election, which Trump won, Harris acknowledged personal regrets but said her focus has shifted. \u201cOh, I have many regrets. I mean, I wrote a book about it,\u201d she said, before adding that her priority now is addressing the country\u2019s current challenges rather than dwelling on past outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State of the Union<\/strong> is an annual speech delivered by the President to a joint session of Congress, outlining legislative priorities and offering an assessment of the nation\u2019s condition.
