The initiative is part of a broader push to modernise transport-related services and improve convenience for vehicle owners and drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aligned with the Centre\u2019s <strong>Digital India<\/strong> vision, the scheme aims to offer a unified, integrated system for key transport documents. Under this model, services related to vehicle registration certificates (RC) and driving licences (DL) are being brought together through a single, standardised smart card format that will be valid across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each smart card is embedded with an electronic chip and a QR code that securely stores essential information such as vehicle details, owner particulars, and driving licence data. Transport officials say this technology will significantly reduce the circulation of fake or tampered documents and allow instant verification during roadside checks or inspections. By simply scanning the QR code, authorised personnel can access accurate, real-time information linked to national databases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The programme has been implemented in coordination with the <strong>Ministry of Road Transport and Highways<\/strong> and the <strong>National Informatics Centre<\/strong>, ensuring that the system is fully integrated with existing digital infrastructure. The smart cards can also be linked to online services through the <strong>Parivahan Seva portal<\/strong>, enabling citizens to access transport-related services more easily from anywhere in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the key advantages of the One Nation\u2013One Card system is nationwide validity. Since driving licences and vehicle registration documents issued in one state will be seamlessly recognised in others, citizens are expected to make fewer visits to RTO offices, especially when relocating or travelling across state borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new smart cards are being issued to owners of newly registered vehicles and to applicants applying for fresh driving licences. Existing RC and DL cards will continue to remain valid, ensuring a smooth transition without inconvenience to current cardholders. However, new cards are also being provided when applications are submitted for services such as transfer of ownership, renewal of registration, termination of hypothecation, renewal of driving licences, and changes in address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to RTO officials, one persistent issue with older cards\u2014fading or illegible printed details\u2014has been eliminated in the new format.
