Advocate Sulaiman Mohammad Khan informed that the Delhi Police Crime Branch has moved an application for a 07 days extension of Chib’s custody, along with two separate applications seeking remand of two accused for a 05 day and 02 day custody.

“Delhi Police Crime Branch has moved an application for extension of PC remand of National President of Youth Congress, Uday Bhanu Chib. They have sought a 07 days extension of the PC remand, and also moved two applications for remand of one of the accused for 05 days and the other for 02 days”, he said. Further, he said that Chib was granted bail as the Delhi Crime Branch was unable to produce any solid reasons to seek the police custody of the IYC National President.

“We have also moved an application praying for the grant of bail to the National President, Uday Bhanu Chib. The Duty Magistrate was pleased enough to grant bail to Uday Bhanu Chib and has explained in the bail order we have just read that the Police Crime Branch has not been able to explain the reasons for seeking extension of PC remand to Uday Bhanu Chib”, he stated. Certain conditions have been imposed that he has to surrender his passport and electronic gadgets before the Court, and he has to produce one surety of Rs 50,000 before the Court, Khan added.

Advocate Roopesh Singh Bhadauria highlighted that Chib was in the police custody for 04 days. He was initially expected to be produced before the Duty Magistrate at 06:00 hours (IST) today, but the hearing was held prior, at 01:30 hours. “This was not a fresh arrest of Uday Bhanu Chib. He had already been in the PC for 04 days. We received a message around 00:00 hours stating that he would be produced before the Duty Magistrate around 06:00 hours. Thankfully, we at least received a message for him, because we didn’t even receive a message about the others Then at 00:30 we received a call saying he would be produced at 01:00 hours. We arrived in a panic. His hearing began at 01:30”, he stated.

Delhi Police Crime Branch, not being able to produce any substantial reason for extending Chib’s custody comes as a sharp contrast to what the Special Commissioner Of Police Devesh Chandra Srivastava said on 24th February 2026, that they have found concrete evidence that the incident was done “under a deep conspiracy”.

“On the basis of the investigation so far, we have found concrete evidence that this was done under a deep conspiracy. Further investigation into this case has been transferred to the Interstate Cell of Crime Branch. Detailed investigation is being done”, he said.

Devesh Srivastava had further asserted, that the case was transferred to the Interstate Cell of Crime Branch and a detailed investigation would be done under it. He added, “FIR in this connection was registered at Tilak Marg Police Station under sections 61(2), 121(1), 132, 190, 195(1), 221, 223(A), 196, 197 and 3(5) of BNS. 08 people have been arrested so far. The arrested people include Indian Youth Congress office bearers. All arrested people were questioned after being taken into Police remand. Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib has also been arrested”.

According to police, Chib has been booked under multiple sections of the BNS including 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, 121(1) for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty, 132 for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, 195(1) for assaulting or obstructing a public servant during riot suppression, 221 for obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions, 223(A) for disobedience to orders of a public servant, 190 for offences by members of an unlawful assembly, 197 for imputations prejudicial to national integration, and 3(5) for common intention.

The incident had stemmed from a February 20th protest demonstration by Indian Youth Congress leaders, in which they had staged a “shirtless protest” at the Bharat Mandapam venue of the Al Impact India Summit in the national capital by removing their shirts with slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congress MP Rajeev Shukla also criticised the police action. “I strongly condemn this Police action against a peaceful protest. Protests and demonstrations are part of a democracy. Jana Sangh and BJP had protested a lot during the rule of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh and other PMs. Were they jailed during peaceful protests? Never did this happen. Atal ji and Advani ji would have never done this. I think they are going to the extreme. I think this is not right”.

A Congress delegation led by party treasurer Ajay Maken, and Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav, met Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and gave a memorandum regarding the arrest of IYC chief Uday Bhanu Chib and others over the AI summit protest. Lt Governor Saxena maintained that the protest was “ill-conceived and malicious”.

Suvro Sanyal – Team Maverick.

New Delhi; February 2026: India Youth Congress (IYC) National President Uday Bhanu Chib has been granted bail at around 01:50 hours (IST) by the Duty Magistrate in the IYC protest at AI Impact Summit case on Saturday.
