The rupee has fallen to 92.17 to the dollar, down 0.7%, eclipsing its previous all-time low of 91.9875 hit in late January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The widening Middle East conflict \u200bthreatens to hit India through multiple external channels. The country imports more than 80% of \u200bits crude oil needs, making the rupee highly sensitive to oil price shocks \u2060that swell the import bill, widen the current account deficit and quicken inflation. At the same time, \u200bheightened risk aversion could trigger foreign portfolio outflows from Indian equities, while any disruption to economic \u200bactivity in the Middle East risks weighing on remittance inflows from Indians working in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Remittances from the Middle East as well as capital flows are likely to get impacted in the scenario of an extended regional conflict&#8221;, \u200banalysts at Kotak Mahindra Bank said in a note. &#8220;In the case of an extended crisis, India\u2019s \u200bmacroeconomic outlook is expected to weaken through widening of current account deficit, higher inflation, sharper rupee depreciation and \u200clower GDP \u2060growth&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"863\" height=\"566\" src=\"https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-55.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-107373\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-55.png 863w, https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-55-300x197.png 300w, https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-55-768x504.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 863px) 100vw, 863px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Iran conflict escalates, with the closure of the Hormuz Strait \u2013 Oil prices have started surging. In a sharp manifestation &#8211; Asian equities fell sharply today as markets open, following losses in US stocks, as surging oil prices heightened concerns about global economic growth and inflation. Brent crude has risen more than 13% since the war broke out over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The oil shock comes at a time when the \u200brupee has already been \u200bunder sustained pressure for \u2060months, punctuated only by brief and short-lived periods of recovery.
