Tehran; March 2026<\/strong>: According to its sources, the Assembly of Experts was prepared to announce the 56 years old Mojtaba Khamenei as the new supreme leader as early as Wednesday morning. However, some council members voiced concerns that such a move could make him a target for US and Israeli strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his hatred response, the Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz have said the Israeli military will attempt to kill any Iranian leader appointed to succeed Khamenei. \u201cAny leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime to continue leading the plan to destroy Israel, threaten the US and the free world and the countries of the region, and oppress the Iranian people, will be an unequivocal target for elimination\u201d, Katz said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katz went on to say that Israel will continue to act with the US to destroy Iran\u2019s capabilities \u201cand it does not matter what his name is or where he hides. We shall create the conditions for the Iranian people to overthrow their government\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, supporters of the late Khamenei will gather at the prayer hall of the Grand Mosalla of Tehran tonight at 22:00 hours (LST) which is 08:30 hours (GMT), starting a three-day commemoration ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz\u2019s threats to eliminate Khamenei\u2019s replacement is viewed as a part of the Israeli playbook. Nida Ibrahim, an analyst from the Ramallah in occupied West Bank have depicted that: \u201cIsrael has been saying for a while that it will be able to get the supreme leader wherever he is hiding, and now they\u2019re saying they will target whoever replaces him. If you listen to Israeli analysts, they are treating the killing of Khamenei as a major success operationally, but also in terms of the intelligence that preceded that strike\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nida further pointed out that \u2013 \u201cThis is the mood that you are seeing in Israel, pride and a sense that they can continue to crack down on whoever will replace the supreme leader. We have seen the same scenario in Gaza, where Israel kept hunting down the Hamas leadership, and we\u2019ve seen that in Lebanon as well.
