New Delhi, March 2026 :<\/strong> Government sources on Saturday said that prices of petrol and diesel in India will not increase, stressing that the country\u2019s energy stock position is steadily improving and the overall fuel supply situation is becoming more stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the sources, the strengthening of energy reserves has boosted the government\u2019s confidence in effectively managing fuel supplies despite global uncertainties. Officials indicated that several measures have been taken to ensure the continuity of crude oil imports and maintain stability in domestic fuel prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the key steps taken by the government is the diversification of crude oil imports. Authorities said India has increased imports from sources that do not rely heavily on the strategically sensitive Strait of Hormuz, one of the world\u2019s most important oil transit routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, nearly 60 percent of India\u2019s crude oil imports came from sources located outside the Strait of Hormuz route. However, that share has now increased to around 70 percent, according to government sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials also noted that supply movements through the Strait of Hormuz have begun to stabilise. \u201cThe first cargo has already started moving through the Strait of Hormuz, indicating that supply flows are stabilising,\u201d the sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government\u2019s clarification comes after several opposition parties raised concerns that fuel prices might rise in the near future. Responding to these allegations, officials described the claims as baseless and reiterated that there is no plan to increase petrol and diesel prices at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources said that earlier assurances provided by the government specifically referred to petrol and diesel and should not be interpreted as applying to other energy products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was only said for petrol and diesel. It was not in reference to LPG,\u201d the sources said while addressing the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They once again reiterated that the government remains committed to ensuring that petrol and diesel prices remain stable. \u201cToday we again assure that prices of petrol and diesel will not increase,\u201d the sources stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the issue of cooking gas, officials acknowledged that the government is currently reviewing production priorities to ensure that adequate supplies of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) are maintained across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources noted that the price of an LPG cylinder has increased by around \u20b9110 over the past 12 years. They said authorities are closely monitoring the energy market and working to maintain stability in supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government added that it is continuously assessing the global and domestic energy situation and taking necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability while minimising the impact of international market fluctuations on consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials emphasised that maintaining stable fuel prices and securing energy supplies remain key priorities as the government continues to monitor developments in global energy markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
