The second year was observed as “Atal Nirman Varsh” (Atal Construction Year) in memory of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, giving fresh momentum to infrastructure development and welfare schemes.

Now, the third year has been declared “Mahtari Gaurav Year,” dedicated to mothers and sisters, with women becoming the focal point of most state government schemes. This sequence clearly reflects the government’s commitment to sensitive and inclusive development.

Mahtari Vandan Yojana: Foundation of Self-Respect and Financial Security

The Mahtari Vandan Yojana of the Chhattisgarh government has emerged as a strong pillar of women’s empowerment. Under this scheme, nearly 7 million married women in the state receive ₹1,000 every month directly in their bank accounts.

So far, more than ₹15,595 crore has been transferred to women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Recently, in the 24th installment, over 6.8 million women received ₹641 crore under the scheme.

This regular financial support is not only strengthening women’s confidence but also making them economically empowered. Many women are using the funds not just for household expenses but also investing in self-employment and small businesses.

From Struggle to Self-Reliance: The Inspiring Story of Rohini Patel

Mrs. Rohini Patel from Khairdih village in Balod district is a powerful example of this transformation. After the untimely death of her husband, the responsibility of the family fell entirely on her shoulders. She had to care for her elderly mother-in-law and ensure the education of her two college-going children.

During this difficult phase, the Mahtari Vandan Yojana became a ray of hope. She carefully saved the financial assistance and started vegetable cultivation in her field. By purchasing seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural inputs, she began farming with dedication.

Today, Rohini Patel earns a steady income by selling fresh vegetables grown on her farm in local markets. This income helps her meet family expenses and continue her children’s education without interruption. Her efforts have also become a source of inspiration for other women in her village.

Transformation through ‘Bihan’: Maheshwari Yadav Becomes a “Lakhpati Didi”

Mrs. Maheshwari Yadav from Korda village in Balodabazar-Bhatapara district is another inspiring example of women’s empowerment. Earlier, her life was limited to household responsibilities like that of a typical homemaker. However, after joining the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission ‘Bihan’, her life took a new direction.

With the support of her self-help group and family, she started a small grocery store in her village. Through dedication and good management, the shop gradually became a trusted local outlet. Today she earns around ₹1 to ₹1.5 lakh annually from the shop and has earned the title of “Lakhpati Didi.” Her family’s financial condition and her children’s education have significantly improved.

A New Identity through Technology: “Drone Didi” Seema Verma

Ms. Seema Verma from the Masturi area of Bilaspur district has demonstrated that women can also excel in modern technology with the right opportunities and training.

After joining a self-help group, she initially began mushroom cultivation and later received training in drone operation. With government support, she was provided with a drone set, generator, and an e-vehicle.

Today, Seema Verma sprays pesticides on farmers’ fields using drones and earns a respectable income through this work. These provisions reflect the government’s commitment to the holistic development of women and children.

Strong Systems for Safety, Health, and Dignity

The state has also developed an effective mechanism for women’s safety. Through One Stop Centers, the 181 Women Helpline, and Dial 112, immediate assistance is provided to women in distress. Under the Sukhad Sahara Yojana, financial assistance is being provided to more than 2.18 lakh widowed and abandoned women.

From Self-Reliance to Leadership

More than 42,000 women self-help groups in the state have been empowered economically through concessional loans. Assigning ready-to-eat food production to women’s groups has also provided them with a stable source of income.

Initiatives such as Digital Sakhi, Didi E-Rickshaw, sewing machine assistance, Mini Mata Mahtari Jatan Yojana, and Lakhpati Didi are opening new livelihood opportunities for women.

According to Women and Child Development Minister Lakshmi Rajwade, making women self-reliant and providing them with a safe and dignified environment is the government’s top priority.

Strong Foundation for a Developed Chhattisgarh

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has made it clear that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Developed India, the state is moving forward toward inclusive growth through “Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision 2047,” where women’s active participation is considered essential.

“Mahtari Gaurav Year” is not just an administrative initiative but a broad social movement.
