Seoul; March 2026<\/strong>: South Korean President \u200bLee Jae Myung said today morning that the presence of American Forces in U.S army base in Pyeongtaek is evitable, and South Korea cannot stop U.S. forces in Korea from redeploying some weapons, after reports that \u200csome U.S. Patriot missile defence systems were being sent to the conflict in the Middle East. “It appears that there is controversy recently over U.S. Forces in \u200bKorea shipping some weapons, such as artillery batteries and air-defence weapons, \u200bout of the country”, Lee said in a cabinet meeting, \u2060noting while Seoul had expressed opposition it was not in a \u200bposition to make demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lee also said the removal of some U.S. \u200bweapons from the country “does not hinder deterrence strategy towards North Korea,” noting South Korea’s defence spending and conventional capabilities far exceeded the equivalent in North \u200bKorea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun said on Friday the U.S. \u200band South Korean militaries were discussing the possible redeployment of some U.S. Patriot missile \u200cdefence \u2060systems based in South Korea to be used in the conflict in the Middle East. In these context it is mention worthy that earlier on Friday (06th March) South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun have said that the \u200bU.S. and South Korean militaries are discussing the possible redeployment of some \u200cU.S. Patriot missile defence systems based in South Korea to be used in the war against Iran, while he was responding to questions at a hearing in the parliament following \u200bmedia reports that units of the U.S. \u200bmobile missile interceptor system had been moved to the \u2060Osan Air Base in South Korea from other locations in \u200bthe country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Korea hosts a \u2060major \u200bU.S. military presence in combined defence \u200bagainst nuclear-armed North Korea, with about 28,500 troops and surface-to-air defence systems, including the \u200bPatriot missile interceptors. It was reported today, that batteries were shipped out of Osan Air Base and were likely to be redeployed to \u200bU.S. military bases \u200bin Saudi \u2060Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, though South Korean authorities have not confirmed these reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U.S. and Israeli \u200bforces have been striking strategic targets inside Iran \u200bfor more \u2060than a week under a campaign that Trump said was aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear weapons and ballistic missile capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
