The&nbsp;<strong>Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal&nbsp;<\/strong>gave the assent to the project today which aims to elevate efficiency at the Kolkata Dock System.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"242\" height=\"176\" src=\"https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image-148.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-108520\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the occasion,&nbsp;<strong>Sarbananda Sonowal<\/strong>&nbsp;said, \u201cUnder the visionary leadership of Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, our efforts are guided by the philosophy of&nbsp;<strong>\u2018Virasat bhi, Vikas bhi\u2019<\/strong>\u2014preserving our rich heritage while advancing modern infrastructure. The renovation of the historic Bascule Bridge at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata reflects this commitment by safeguarding an important legacy asset while upgrading it with modern technology to ensure safer, faster and more efficient port operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project involves the modernisation of the nearly six-decade-old double-leaf bascule bridge located at the Kolkata Dock System (KDS).
