New Delhi, March 2026 :Priyanka Gandhi Vadra<\/strong> on Tuesday strongly defended Rahul Gandhi<\/strong>, saying he is the only leader who has not bowed before the Bharatiya Janata Party<\/strong>-led government over the past several years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She made the remarks while speaking during a discussion in the Lok Sabha<\/strong> on a resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The House was being presided over by Krishna Prasad Tenneti<\/strong> at the time, who allowed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to address members during the debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her speech, Priyanka Gandhi criticised the ruling party and said it was ironic that leaders who often criticise India\u2019s first Prime Minister were now quoting him in their arguments. Referring to Jawaharlal Nehru<\/strong>, she said she found it surprising that those who regularly attack him were suddenly invoking his words in the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was laughing today because the person they criticise every day \u2014 Nehru ji \u2014 they are quoting the same person today. Suddenly they have started respecting Nehru ji. They said that the one who made democracy strongest was Nehru ji,\u201d she said, drawing loud support from Opposition members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Priyanka Gandhi then turned her attention to defending Rahul Gandhi, saying he had remained steadfast despite facing sustained criticism and attacks from the government over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is only one person in this country who has not bent before these people in the last 12 years \u2014 and that is the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi,\u201d she said. She added that his refusal to compromise stemmed from his willingness to speak openly about issues he believes are important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to her, the government finds it difficult to accept such criticism. \u201cThis is because the Leader of Opposition does not hesitate to speak the truth. They cannot digest the truth,\u201d she remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her comments came as the House debated the Opposition\u2019s motion seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla, a move that triggered a sharp exchange between members of the ruling alliance and the Opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the debate, Kiren Rijiju<\/strong> responded to the motion and emphasised that all Members of Parliament must function within the framework of rules and constitutional provisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rijiju said that both ruling and Opposition members are bound by the regulations laid down in the Constitution and parliamentary procedures. He also made a pointed remark suggesting that no individual should consider himself above the established rules of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen any individual considers himself above everything else, it is necessary that he be called out,\u201d Rijiju said, in what was widely seen as an indirect reference to Rahul Gandhi during the heated debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
