Similarly, the price of HSD has been raised by PKR 184.49 per litre, from PKR 335.86 to PKR 520.35. Kerosene prices have also gone up by PKR 34.08 per litre, reaching PKR 457.80.

To cushion the broader economic impact, particularly on transport and logistics, the government has adjusted petroleum levy rates. The levy on petrol has been increased significantly from PKR 105 to PKR 160 per litre, while it has been reduced to zero on diesel, down from PKR 55. This step is aimed at limiting the cascading impact of diesel price hikes on freight and essential goods.

Speaking on the decision, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik described the move as “difficult but responsible,” noting that it followed extensive consultations involving the country’s top leadership, including the president, prime minister, military authorities, and provincial chief ministers.

He stated that the price revision is intended to rationalise subsidies, ensuring that financial support is directed only towards the most deserving segments, while also safeguarding the economic stability achieved in recent years under international commitments.

Alongside the price hike, the government unveiled a series of targeted relief measures. Two-wheeler users will receive a subsidy of PKR 100 per litre, capped at 20 litres per month for a period of three months. Small farmers will benefit from a one-time subsidy of PKR 1,500 per acre during the harvest season.

Additionally, diesel-dependent inter-city and goods transport services will receive a subsidy of PKR 100 per litre to ease operational costs. The government has also extended support to the rail sector, with trains transporting 80–85 per cent of food items set to receive direct assistance of PKR 70,000 per month.

Large transport vehicles will be eligible for monthly support of PKR 80,000, while inter-city public service vehicles will receive up to PKR 100,000 per month.

The sweeping changes reflect Islamabad’s attempt to balance economic reforms with social protection, even as rising fuel costs are expected to have a significant impact on inflation and everyday expenses.

(The content of this article is sourced from a news agency and has not been edited by the Mavericknews30 team.)

Islamabad, April 2026 : The Government of Pakistan has announced a steep increase in fuel prices, raising petrol by 43 per cent and high-speed diesel (HSD) by 55 per cent, in a move aimed at maintaining fiscal discipline while limiting the burden on vulnerable sections.
