Chandrababu Naidu on Friday asserted that Amaravati will serve as the central growth engine driving the state towards its ambitious target of becoming a $2.4 trillion economy by 2047. Emphasising the strategic importance of the capital city, he said that its development is now irreversible following the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 by Parliament.

Addressing a press conference, Naidu expressed confidence that no force can halt Amaravati’s progress. He stated that major infrastructure and development works in the capital region are expected to be completed by 2028. Looking ahead, he added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had laid the foundation stone for Amaravati in 2015 and revived construction efforts last year, is likely to inaugurate key projects in 2029.

Describing the passage of the Bill as a historic milestone, Naidu said it represents the aspirations of nearly five crore people and reinforces Amaravati’s status as the sole and permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh. He termed it a “people’s victory” and celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets at his official residence.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the legislation received support from almost all political parties, except the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). He expressed surprise over the party’s opposition, stating that its MPs, despite being elected from Andhra Pradesh, failed to uphold the sentiments and interests of the state’s people.

Naidu also criticised the YSRCP for its earlier proposal advocating a three-capital model, alleging that it created confusion and hindered Amaravati’s development. He claimed that even now, efforts are being made to obstruct the capital’s progress. Stressing the importance of respecting parliamentary decisions, he said states governed by regional parties should honour laws passed by Parliament.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and members of both Houses of Parliament, including the Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Chairman, for supporting the Bill.

Taking aim at the previous government, Naidu alleged that it failed to adequately address issues arising from the state’s bifurcation and instead pushed Andhra Pradesh into a financial crisis by mortgaging government assets during its tenure. In contrast, he said the current coalition government is committed to balancing development and welfare despite fiscal constraints.

He outlined a structured approach involving short-term, medium-term, and long-term planning to ensure sustainable growth. Amaravati, he said, will not only be an administrative capital but also a hub for economic activity, innovation, and investment.

Reaffirming his vision, Naidu said Amaravati symbolizes the aspirations and self-respect of the people of Andhra Pradesh and will play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s future on both national and global stages.

Amaravati, April 2026 : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.
