Jaipur, April 2026 : Chief Secretary V. Srinivas chaired a high-level meeting at the State Secretariat on Friday with officials of the Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority and the Water Resources Department to review the progress of development works across the state\u2019s 16 river basins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of the Water Resources Department and Authority Commissioner Abhay Kumar briefed the Chief Secretary on the ongoing works and their progress. Chief Engineer Raj Pal Singh presented a detailed overview of various initiatives being undertaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emphasising the critical role of the authority, the Chief Secretary highlighted its importance in assessing water availability and ensuring its optimal utilisation. He directed officials to prepare basin-wise development plans for all 16 river basins, keeping in mind their overall growth and sustainability. He also instructed that plans be devised to ensure water supply to water-scarce regions by transferring resources from surplus areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Secretary underlined that long-term water security in Rajasthan can only be achieved through coordinated efforts in water conservation and management. He stressed the need for balanced and scientific utilisation of water resources, supported by accurate assessment of water availability and demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calling for a broader approach, he said water conservation should be turned into a mass movement, with active public participation. He also directed officials to maximise the use of technology for effective monitoring of projects and better implementation of schemes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the state\u2019s agrarian economy, he said that a large section of Rajasthan\u2019s population depends on agriculture, and ensuring adequate water availability for irrigation is crucial for farmers\u2019 welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, officials from the Central Water Commission, New Delhi, made a presentation on guidelines for river basin master plans and development strategies. Discussions were also held on various aspects of implementing the reservoir master plan. The Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority presented a comprehensive report on progress made so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Secretary issued specific directions to strengthen technical planning, monitoring, mobile app-based tracking, and survey mechanisms under MJSA 2.1 and 2.2 for water conservation projects. He also reviewed progress under key initiatives such as the Rajasthan River Rejuvenation Project, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, public participation in water conservation, Vande Ganga Water Conservation Campaign, Karmabhoomi to Matrubhoomi programme, and water-related initiatives under the Viksit Bharat framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further instructed officials to accelerate groundwater recharge activities under district-level recharge plans, adopt innovative methods in water conservation, prioritise river development works, and ensure timely repair and water availability in the Indira Gandhi Canal system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
