{"id":113526,"date":"2026-04-06T12:41:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T07:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/?p=113526"},"modified":"2026-04-06T12:41:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T07:11:08","slug":"uk-bangladesh-bilateral-trade-ties-to-be-strengthened-after-the-formation-of-new-bangladeshi-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mavericknews30.com\/?p=113526","title":{"rendered":"UK-Bangladesh Bilateral Trade Ties To Be Strengthened After The Formation Of New Bangladeshi Government."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>London\/Dhaka; April 2026<\/strong>: United Kingdom\u2019s Trade Envoy to Bangladesh &#8211; the Baroness Winterton of Doncaster, DBE is visiting Dhaka this week to reinforce and expand the longstanding and mutually beneficial UK\u2013Bangladesh trade and economic partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Baronesses third visit to Bangladesh comes at a pivotal time following the formation of the newly elected Bangladeshi government in February this year. It underscores UK\u2019s commitment to deepening cooperation in trade, economic development, higher education, aviation and defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During her visit, Baroness Winterton will hold meetings with senior ministers and other government and military officials, to discuss shared priorities for mutually beneficial growth and reiterate the UK\u2019s commitment as a reliable and long-term economic partner for Bangladesh. The Trade Envoy will also meet with business leaders including representatives from UK companies operating in Bangladesh, to explore avenues for increasing bilateral trade and investment and strengthening commercial ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Baroness Winterton will visit Bangladeshi businesses that export to the UK using the UK\u2019s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). DCTS is one of the world\u2019s most generous trade preference schemes. It is designed to support developing countries such as Bangladesh by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Providing duty-free market access for a wide range of products;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Simplifying rules of origin to make it easier for exporters to qualify;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encouraging diversification of exports beyond garments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Boosting long\u2011term, sustainable economic development through job creation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Bangladesh is the biggest beneficiary of duty-free access in the DCTS, supplying high quality goods to British consumers at competitive prices and supporting jobs in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trade Envoy Baroness Winterton said: \u201cThe UK and Bangladesh share a strong, historic partnership, and our countries continue to benefit from expanding trade and investment ties. I look forward to engage with government leaders, businesses, and entrepreneurs to identify new opportunities that support economic growth and prosperity for both nations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke said: \u201c\u201cShared growth and prosperity are at the heart of the UK\u2013Bangladesh relationship, and Baroness Winterton\u2019s third visit in a year reflects just how seriously we take that commitment. This visit will further solidify our partnership as Bangladesh enters an exciting new chapter\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is noteworthy that on the 13th February this year \u2013 a day after the Bangladesh had exercised their electoral franchise, the United Kingdom had reiterated, \u201cWe look forward to the new government advancing democratic, economic, and social reforms. We will work closely with Bangladesh on our shared priorities of economic growth, migration, climate and security, building on the strong connections between our people\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just four days prior to the elections on February 12th \u2013 on 08th February, United Kingdom had finalised a deal with Bangladesh Navy for the former HMS Enterprise, an Echo\u2011class hydrographic and oceanographic survey vessel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The signing ceremony was held at Bangladesh Navy Headquarters following extensive technical engagement between the Bangladesh Navy, the UK Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy. The vessel, known for its distinguished service in survey operations, humanitarian support, and disaster\u2011response missions, will be of immense help in strengthening Bangladesh\u2019s maritime security and regional stability efforts. It will also provide hydrographic, oceanographic and scientific research capability and offer significant research opportunities for Bangladeshi universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the signing ceremony, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke said: \u201cThe sale of this survey vessel reflects the deep trust and strong cooperation between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh.
