Baleshwar\/Kolkata; April 2026<\/strong>: Days after the death of Indian Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, his wife (ex<\/strong>) actress Priyanka Sarkar has filed an FIR in Baleshwar (Balasore), Odisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 43 years old actor died on March 29 after drowning during the shoot of a television serial at Talsari beach near Digha (region under Odisha jurisdiction). His sudden death has left the film and television industry in shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving details about the case, Balasore Additional SP Debajyoti Dash said the complaint has been formally registered and the investigation is underway. “In this connection, the case has been registered on the basis of the report of the complainant. The complainant’s name is Priyanka Sarkar, the wife of the late Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. After registering the case, the investigation has started and is in its preliminary stage. Balasore Police is taking its all-out effort to reveal the truth behind the issue”, the SP reiterated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier in the morning today the Bengali entertainment industry has announced an indefinite strike beginning from April 07th, escalating calls for stricter on-set safety measures following the tragic death of actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. The actor died on March 29 after drowning while shooting for a television serial ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’, as per the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artist\u2019s Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was formalised by the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum after an emergency meeting held yesterday on April 05th at Technicians’ Studio in Kolkata. Prominent industry figures, including actor Padmasree Prosenjit Chatterjee, along with other directors, producers, and television channel representatives, attended the meeting. In an official statement shared on Facebook, the Forum confirmed the industry-wide work stoppage:<\/p>\n\n\n

“As you all know, on March 29, 2026, during the shooting of the serial ‘Bhole Baba Paar Karega’, our<\/p>\n\n\n\n

friend and member of our organisation, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, passed away suddenly. The exact cause of our dear member’s untimely demise is still unknown to us”. It further stated, “In the presence of the Artist\u2019s Forum, Federation, television producers, and directors, it was decided that from April 07, 2026, starting at 07:00 Hours, we, the artists and technicians will observe an indefinite strike (work stoppage). This will continue until specific steps are taken to thoroughly review and ensure the proper safety and security of artists and technicians during shoots (both indoor and outdoor)”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Forum has directed all members to assemble at the Technicians’ Studio on April 07 at 10:00 Hours in support of the strike, adding, “We believe your spontaneous participation will boost our morale”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the directive excludes those currently engaged in outdoor shoots outside Kolkata or West Bengal. The strike announcement follows a massive protest march held in Kolkata on April 05th, where members of the film and television fraternity has demanded accountability and justice for Banerjee’s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
