Tehran, April 2026 : Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday issued a stern warning to the United States\u2013Israel coalition, cautioning of serious consequences following an airstrike on the campus of Sharif University of Technology in Tehran amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a post on X, Araghchi said the US-Israel alliance had bombed what he described as \u201cIran\u2019s MIT,\u201d referring to the country\u2019s premier technology institution. He asserted that \u201cthe aggressors will see our strength,\u201d signaling a potential response from Tehran to the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Israeli-American aggressors have bombed Iran\u2019s MIT. This follows attacks on other universities. Fourteen hundred years ago, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that even if knowledge were located in the distant Pleiades star cluster, Iranians would attain it. The aggressors will witness our strength,\u201d Araghchi wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident reportedly occurred early Monday when US and Israeli forces carried out a joint airstrike targeting the Sharif University of Technology. According to Iran\u2019s state media outlet Press TV, the strike was aimed at the country\u2019s academic and civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initial reports indicate that the university mosque sustained damage during the attack. Mohsen Dodangeh, mayor of Tehran\u2019s District 9, stated that a gas facility within the university premises was also hit, triggering an explosion. The blast caused panic among local residents, forcing authorities to evacuate several nearby homes as a precautionary measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Masoud Tajrishi, head of Sharif University of Technology, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that one of the buildings within a scientific and cultural complex was directly targeted, leading to damage in surrounding structures as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSharif University is a scientific institution dedicated to the advancement of culture and science. It has suffered damage due to the cruelty of the enemies of this land,\u201d Tajrishi said in a statement cited by Press TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He confirmed that no casualties were reported in the attack and added that an investigation has been launched to assess the full extent of the damage. Tajrishi also stated that reconstruction of the affected sections would begin soon, reaffirming Iran\u2019s commitment to emerging as a major global scientific power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Condemning the strike, he described it as a \u201ccowardly act\u201d and said it reflected the desperation of the attackers to achieve their objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
