Kolkata, April 2026 : The 12th match of the Indian Premier League 2026 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings was abandoned due to persistent rain at Eden Gardens on Monday, forcing both teams to share a point each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The match had barely progressed into the fourth over when rain interrupted play. What began as a light drizzle quickly turned into a steady downpour, compelling the umpires to halt proceedings and send the players back to the pavilion. Ground staff responded swiftly, covering the pitch, square, and run-up areas within minutes to protect the playing surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An inspection was initially scheduled for 8:45 PM IST, but with no improvement in weather conditions, officials eventually decided to call off the match. As a result, both teams were awarded one point each. Punjab Kings maintained their strong position at the top of the points table, while Kolkata Knight Riders slipped to eighth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the interruption, Punjab Kings had made a dominant start. Fast bowler Xavier Bartlett struck early, putting KKR under pressure with two quick wickets during the powerplay.
