Patna, April 2026 : In a significant political development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Friday, paving the way for a major leadership transition in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kumar arrived in New Delhi on Thursday and confirmed that he would soon step down from his role as Chief Minister. Speaking to reporters, he said that after years of governance in Bihar, he now intends to shift his focus to national politics. \u201cI have accomplished a lot of work in Bihar. Now I felt that I should remain here, and that is what I am doing,\u201d he remarked, adding that he would resign within the next three to four days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His move marks the beginning of a carefully planned transition within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Kumar was accompanied by senior Janata Dal (United) leader Sanjay Jha and Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, both of whom are expected to play key roles in the transition process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier indications from Jha had suggested that the formation of a new government in Bihar would begin after April 13, but Kumar\u2019s latest remarks have made it clear that the changeover is now imminent. The Chief Minister also hinted that new individuals would soon be appointed to lead the state government, including a successor in the top post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reinforcing continuity, Vijay Kumar Choudhary said that the NDA remains united and committed to carrying forward what he described as the \u201cNitish Model\u201d of governance. He highlighted that Bihar\u2019s development over the past two decades would serve as the foundation for future policies and administrative priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following his swearing-in, Kumar is expected to attend a high-level meeting in New Delhi with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting is likely to be crucial in finalising the roadmap for Bihar\u2019s next government, including the selection of the new Chief Minister and allocation of ministerial portfolios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have also reached New Delhi. They are expected to participate in key discussions, including a core committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where leadership and power-sharing arrangements will be deliberated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flurry of high-level engagements underscores the urgency within the NDA to ensure a smooth and coordinated transition.
