According to a report by The New York Times, citing US officials, Tehran is currently unable to locate all the mines it had placed in the crucial shipping corridor. The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, is a lifeline for global energy trade. US officials have described the operation as disorganised, warning that the presence of unaccounted-for mines poses a serious threat to commercial shipping.
