Governor Manoj Sinha announced on Sunday.

According to an official statement from the Lt. Governor’s office, the pilgrimage will span 57 days. The ceremonial Pratham Puja, which marks the spiritual beginning of the Yatra and invokes the blessings of Lord Shiva, will be performed on June 29, coinciding with the holy occasion of Jyeshtha Purnima.

Advance registration for the Yatra will begin on April 15 through both online and offline modes. Pilgrims can register at 554 designated branches of major banks, including Jammu and Kashmir Bank, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, and Yes Bank, located across the country. Authorities have urged devotees to complete registration in advance to ensure smooth participation.

The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages, attracting thousands of devotees from across India and abroad every year. The sacred cave shrine is located at an altitude of 3,888 metres in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir. It is home to a naturally formed ice stalagmite, which devotees believe symbolises the divine presence of Lord Shiva.

A unique feature of the shrine is that the ice formation waxes and wanes in sync with the phases of the moon, adding to its spiritual significance and drawing pilgrims year after year.

Devotees undertaking the Yatra can choose between two main routes. The traditional and longer route begins from Pahalgam and covers approximately 34 kilometres over three to five days. This scenic path passes through key locations such as Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni. While it offers breathtaking views, it also includes steep climbs like Pissu Top and Mahagunas Pass, requiring good physical fitness. Facilities such as community kitchens (langars) and tents are available along the route for pilgrims.

The alternative route via Baltal in Ganderbal district is shorter, covering around 14 kilometres. Many pilgrims prefer this route as it allows them to complete the journey and return to the base camp on the same day.

For added convenience, helicopter services will also be available from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes, enabling easier access for elderly and physically challenged devotees.

With preparations underway, authorities are focusing on ensuring safety, logistics, and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, as thousands are expected to participate in this spiritually significant journey in 2026.

Jammu, April 2026 : The annual Amarnath Yatra will commence this year on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan, Jammu and Kashmir Lt.
