T. Rama Rao on Sunday announced plans to undertake a statewide padayatra in Telangana next year, aiming to reconnect with the public and strengthen the party’s grassroots network ahead of future elections.

Addressing the media at Kyathanpalli in Mancherial district, KTR acknowledged that a disconnect had developed between the party and the people during its decade-long tenure in power. He said the proposed padayatra would serve as a direct outreach initiative to bridge this gap and re-engage with citizens on pressing public issues.

Expressing confidence in the party’s future, KTR asserted that the BRS is poised for a strong comeback in the next elections. He made it clear that the party would contest upcoming polls independently, ruling out any alliances, particularly with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “Alliances have not worked for us. We will go solo and return to power,” he said.

In a candid reflection on the party’s time in government, KTR admitted certain shortcomings. He pointed out that the BRS had failed to maintain consistent coordination with grassroots representatives, including party cadre, sarpanches, MPTCs, and mandal-level leaders. He also noted that despite a significant number of migrant workers from north Telangana districts, the government could not formulate a comprehensive policy addressing issues related to Gulf migration.

On the subject of delimitation, KTR said that any increase in the number of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies could open up new political opportunities. However, he stressed that such changes should be implemented fairly. “If all states receive a uniform increase in seats without reducing their existing share, there should be no concern,” he said.

Outlining the party’s electoral strategy, KTR emphasised that candidate selection would be based strictly on winnability. He indicated that the party would not hesitate to make tough decisions, including leadership changes in regions like the Godavari belt, to improve its electoral prospects.

Responding to speculation about internal discord within the party, KTR dismissed reports of factionalism. He reiterated that all leaders remain united under the leadership of K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the BRS chief. “There are no internal differences. Everyone in the party is working together under KCR’s guidance,” he said.

KTR also underlined his own commitment to the party, stating that he would take up any responsibility assigned to him as a disciplined worker. The planned padayatra, he said, would not only help rebuild public trust but also re-energise the party cadre across Telangana.

With this renewed focus on grassroots engagement and organisational restructuring, the BRS appears to be laying the groundwork for a determined political resurgence in the state.

Hyderabad, April 2026 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.
