Budapest; April 2026<\/strong>: Hungary has invested heavily in a modern tracked fleet as part of its wider defence modernisation effort, ordering more than 200 Lynx infantry fighting vehicles from arms manufacturer Rheinmetall back in 2020. Investing in modern capabilities plays an essential role in future-proofing NATO\u2019s defences. The new Lynx vehicles, due to be adopted by other Allied armies as well, are now contributing to strengthening NATO\u2019s defences along its eastern flank. The Lynx can accommodate 03 crews, 08 infantry at the rear, with 45 tons of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to growing threats to security, Allied Leaders decided at the NATO Summit in The Hague in 2025 to significantly increase investments in defence, reaching 5% of GDP by 2035. This decision ensures the Alliance will keep protecting its one billion people now and in the future with enough forces, resources and capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exclusive on-field demonstration, SSGT Tam\u00e1s D\u00e1niel Korpa, Commander, Hungarian Lynx fighting vehicle have said, \u201cAs Hungarian soldiers, we are proud to contribute to NATO\u2019s strength with this infantry fighting vehicle\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SSGT Korpa has further reiterated, \u201cModernisation is important because with new equipment we can carry out our missions faster and more effectively. The Lynx crew consists of three people. The commander, the gunner and the driver. It can carry up to eight other people. It\u2019s not a tank, it\u2019s an armoured fighting vehicle. The difference is that tanks do not have space to transport infantry. The Lynx\u2019s main role is to transport infantry and support them in battle\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, PVT M\u00e1t\u00e9 Burinda, Hungarian Infantry Squad Leader has asserted, \u201cWhen the ramp opens, everyone\u2019s adrenaline is very high. Our infantry fighting vehicle ensures our protection. As an infantry soldier, it is very good for our morale that such a fighting vehicle supports us\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accompanying SSGT Tamas Daniel Korpa in the live demonstration was PVT Iv\u00e1n B\u00e9la Kirschner, Gunner, Hungarian Lynx fighting vehicle, who has affirmed, \u201cOur brigade\u2019s logo symbolises the strength and protection provided by the armour. This also describes us as Lynx operators. I am proud to serve my country and proud to serve alongside people with whom I have formed very close bonds\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PVT Kriszti\u00e1n Benk\u0151, Driver, has stated, \u201cThe vehicle weighs 45 tons, but it feels like I am driving a Matchbox car. I\u2019ve personally driven it in the field at a top speed of 72 km\/h. When I drive, I can block out the outside world and all noise, and focus only on my task\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PVT Iv\u00e1n B\u00e9la Kirschner, has further said, \u201cThe Lynx is equipped with three weapons. A 30 mm automatic cannon, a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and a 7.62 mm parallel machine gun. It\u2019s a good feeling when you hit a target from 2,500 metres\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tamas Korpa has further stated, \u201cA commander needs to have different skills. One of them is to be able to communicate well with the crew, along with the ability to adapt to situations quickly, to decide what needs to be done\u201d, while adding further that, \u201cIn the fighting vehicle, everyone has different strengths and abilities, and that\u2019s what makes this fighting vehicle so effective. Just like NATO and the strengths of different nations\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
