Tiel, Netherlands; April 2026<\/strong>: As NATO members increases defence spending, Europe\u2019s defence industrial base is stepping up to meet demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defenture, a defence company founded in 2013 and headquartered in Tiel, the Netherlands, specialises in producing light tactical mobility solutions vehicles designed not just for transport, but for survivability and flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State of the Art Defenture production lines that has deployed Engineers, technicians, and assembly teams work side by side, transforming raw components into niche mission-ready vehicles. Behind every machine is a team of skilled men and women, designing, engineering, and assembling advanced systems that power modern defence. These vehicles are destined for use by the Royal Netherlands Army and NATO Allies, such as Germany and Lithuania, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ren\u00e9 de Wit, CEO, Defenture has said: \u201cThe call to action we received last year, especially during the NATO summit. We’ve ramped up our production. It’s a given that we need to spend money on defence. There’s no way around that. I think what is important, and we see this trend now increasing, is that Europe needs to spend money on their own defence and not just rely on the US for that. And I think this gives us an enormous opportunity in each European country to either establish companies in defence, or find cooperation with companies in defence. And this is a relatively small company compared to others, but we see a high degree of professionalism here. In terms of the real economy, building vehicles or building machines has a high added value in any economy. And it also gives any person that engages with a company like this enormous experience\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CEO has further asserted, \u201cOn a personal level, here in the Netherlands, I think we can be very proud that we are the only OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) that makes vehicles. That\u2019s one aspect. And the other aspect is that this is a vehicle with a purpose of defence. And that makes all 150 of us very proud. Every time these vehicles are leaving the premises here, and we know they’re off to a certain armed forces unit\u201d, while elaborating further, \u201cWe work together with various countries, and as mentioned, we deliver the vehicles to various countries. So, each country is different in that respect because they want either offset or localisation. And we obviously understand this and work together with the country, with the armed forces there or any company that they have assigned to us to cooperate with. So, they can be in the field of production, or in the field of ILS (Integrated Logistics Support), which is maintenance of the vehicles\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ka\u011fan Meijer, Ballistics & Mine Protection Engineer, Defenture has said: \u201cSo the whole job that I’m doing right now is actually the dream of a 12-year-old kid. I was 12 years old and I wanted to know more depth about military vehicle technology, wanted to understand how everything functions, how it’s been put together, how it all works. What happens when a bullet shoots out of a barrel? What happens when a bullet hits the vehicle? How can it be stopped? Or what happens when a vehicle gets over a mine? How is it so that people can just hop out of the vehicle?\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While further reiterating that, \u201cI was getting eager about all that information, and that was the day that I knew: okay, this is my dream job. When I get big, when I grow old, I’m going to do this as a job for me. Which, I’m happy that I succeeded in, because I studied mechanical engineering. And the first thing I did when I studied, finished my studies, I hopped into the defence industry as a 23-year-old kid. And it was a dream come true for me. It was every day a hustle to create the perfect solutions for all the people, all the customers, all the protectors that we have. To protect them it was a great sense of feeling, and knowing to have achieved that childhood dream was something at a very different level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That also brings the following thing: when I have a very long day at work where I have to create very different solutions, where I have to think a lot because this what we do, is like chess. We have to think a lot before taking steps, because other people are also playing chess with us, to give damage to the vehicle or try to hurt the people that protect us\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While concluding Kagan said: \u201cSeeing that the vehicles I have contributed to have effectively taken part of, for example, the NATO Steadfast Defender or NATO Steadfast Dart exercises, and knowing that those vehicles are effectively working in the field, makes the mission more tangible\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
