This ambitious program aims to make women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) self-reliant by ensuring their annual income reaches at least ₹1 lakh.

The state government has set a target to transform 1.641 million (16.41 lakh) families into ‘Lakhpati Didis’ over the next two years. Currently, 1.249 million (12.49 lakh) women have already achieved this milestone, reflecting the success of the scheme.

To ensure effective implementation, 526 master trainers and 20,517 Lakhpati CRPs (Community Resource Persons) have been trained. These trained personnel are providing women with skill development in various livelihood activities, helping them prepare income-expenditure plans, and extending financial and technical support. The initiative emphasises connecting women to at least two or more sources of income to reduce risk and ensure income stability.Initiative in the Agriculture Sector

Women are being encouraged to adopt commercial vegetable production, spice cultivation (such as turmeric, coriander, and chili), and fruit plantation. The use of modern technologies like drip irrigation, poly mulching, and playhouses are being promoted. Additionally, natural farming practices, organic fertilizers, and bio-pesticide production are gaining traction. Through the ‘Drone Didi’ initiative, women are also earning additional income by spraying crops using drones.Expansion in Non-Agriculture Sector

Women are being linked to self-employment through programs such as the Startup Village Entrepreneurship Programme, Micro Enterprise Development, and the Prime Minister’s Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. Efforts are underway to provide national and international recognition to traditional products like handloom, terracotta, zari-zardozi, and local grains (kodo, kutki, ragi). Online platforms are also being leveraged to boost product sales.Empowerment through Animal Husbandry

In the livestock sector, ‘Pashu Sakhis’ are being developed and trained to create livelihood opportunities. Cluster-based development and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) are ensuring better market linkages for women.Step towards Holistic Development

This initiative is not limited to increasing income—it is empowering women towards a dignified life, financial literacy, and self-reliance. Through inter-departmental coordination, benefits of various schemes are being delivered to the last mile. The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative is emerging as a successful model of women’s empowerment in Madhya Pradesh and is expected to provide a strong foundation for the rural economy in the future.Economic Rise of Women: 5 Lakh Self-Help Groups Empower 59 Lakh Families

Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have emerged as a strong pillar of women’s empowerment in the state. According to recent data, around 5 lakh SHGs are empowering nearly 59 lakh families by supporting their livelihoods.

As per entries in the Digital Livelihood Register (DAR), about 1.249 million (12.49 lakh) women have already been included under the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ category. This indicates a steady rise in rural women’s income and their rapid progress toward self-reliance.

Experts believe that SHGs have not only strengthened women economically but have also enabled them to take on leadership roles and participate in decision-making. Small savings groups are evolving into large economic networks, thereby strengthening the rural economy.

Women are now increasing their incomes through agriculture, animal husbandry, food processing, handicrafts, and small businesses. Group-based activities have connected them to formal banking systems, enabling access to credit and expansion of their enterprises. Government schemes and digital platforms are ensuring transparent and systematic delivery of benefits, while regular entries in the DAR help ensure that benefits reach the rightful beneficiaries.

The ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, being implemented in Madhya Pradesh with the objective of promoting women’s economic empowerment and enhancing rural household incomes, is delivering remarkable results.
