This is the first time such a large incentive has been given to a sportsperson in Chhattisgarh. Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Arun Sao presented the cheque to her at a felicitation ceremony held at his residence office in Nava Raipur. On the occasion, he also provided a kabaddi mat to the Chingrajpara Kabaddi Club of Bilaspur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanju Devi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the Kabaddi World Cup held in Bangladesh in November last year. In the final match, she scored 16 out of India\u2019s total 35 points. She also played a decisive role in the semi-finals and other matches, contributing significantly to India\u2019s championship victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the first kabaddi player from the state to represent India at the international level. Along with the World Cup, she also represented India in the Asian Kabaddi Championship held in Iran in March last year, where she again played a key role in securing the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hailing from the small village of Kerakachhar in Korba district, 23-year-old Sanju is the daughter of a laborer couple. She has been training since July 2023 at the residential girls\u2019 kabaddi academy in Bahatarai, Bilaspur, run by the state\u2019s Sports and Youth Welfare Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While honoring her, Deputy CM Arun Sao said that under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state is continuously working for the development and welfare of sports and athletes. He praised Sanju for achieving remarkable success through her talent and hard work, bringing two international gold medals to the country and earning the MVP title through her exceptional performance. He added that her achievements have enhanced the pride and honor of Chhattisgarh and will inspire other players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further said that it is the government\u2019s responsibility to encourage talented players like Sanju, especially young women athletes. The \u20b950 lakh incentive aims to motivate athletes to perform better. He also highlighted that Chhattisgarh recently hosted the Khelo India Tribal Games successfully and organized large-scale events like the Bastar Olympics and Surguja Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials from the Sports Department, Chhattisgarh Kabaddi Association President Shashikant Baghel, Sanju\u2019s coach Dil Kumar Rathore, along with players and officials from various academies, were present at the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A story of passion and perseverance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanju Devi\u2019s journey is a testament to passion, hard work, discipline, mental strength, and determination. Her aggressive gameplay and ability to score points in crucial moments earned her the MVP title at the World Cup. She has consistently delivered strong performances at both national and international levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite financial hardships, she rose through sheer determination and dedication. From a small village to becoming an international champion, her journey reflects resilience and commitment. Her success is expected to inspire many young athletes aspiring to build a career in sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanju credits mental strength as a key factor in achieving success, stating that overcoming initial challenges is essential to progressing further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rise through consistent performance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanju shared that her journey from Kerakachhar village to the World Cup included participation in several major tournaments. She represented Bilaspur University in the East Zone Inter-University Tournament in Kolkata (January 2024) and the All India Inter-University Tournament in Bathinda (January 2025). She also participated in All India tournaments held in Visakhapatnam, Tamil Nadu, Nagpur, Mahasamund, and Bhajiyapar (Maharashtra).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her strong performance in the selection trials conducted by the Chhattisgarh Kabaddi Association in 2024 earned her a place in the India camp. Based on her excellent performance there, she was selected for the Asian Kabaddi Championship in Iran and later included in the Women\u2019s Kabaddi World Cup team.
