Being developed under the Bharatmala Project, this six-lane greenfield corridor will not only reduce travel distances but also connect Bastar\u2019s local products directly to international ports, effectively overcoming the limitations of a landlocked region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Relief from Difficult Terrain and Major Time Savings<\/strong><br>At present, travel from Jagdalpur to Visakhapatnam <strong>passes<\/strong> through the challenging hilly routes of Koraput and Jeypore in Odisha, taking 7 to 9 hours. This route is particularly demanding for heavy vehicles, leading to higher fuel consumption and maintenance costs. The new corridor will cut travel time to just 3.5 to 4 hours. With a direct and smooth route free of steep terrain, operational costs for transport vehicles will reduce significantly, offering major relief to the logistics sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nabarangpur Interchange: Gateway to Bastar<\/strong><br>The corridor passes through key districts of Chhattisgarh, including Raipur district, Dhamtari district, Kanker district, and Kondagaon district. To connect Jagdalpur with the corridor, the Daspur Interchange in Nabarangpur district will serve as a crucial link. Vehicles from Jagdalpur will need to travel just 50\u201360 km to access the corridor, enabling direct connectivity to Visakhapatnam Port and global trade networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Local Products to Reach International Markets<\/strong><br>One of the most significant impacts of the corridor will be on Bastar\u2019s local economy. Products such as Arabica coffee, organic tamarind, mahua-based goods, and traditional Dhokra crafts will now have easier access to Visakhapatnam Port. Reduced logistics costs will make these products more competitive in global markets, ensuring better returns for farmers, collectors, and artisans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Social and Economic Upliftment<\/strong><br>The project will directly benefit aspirational districts like Bastar, Kanker, and Kondagaon. Improved road connectivity will enhance access to education, healthcare, and other essential services in remote areas. Agricultural produce and steel from Bastar will connect seamlessly with industrial hubs like Raipur, Durg-Bhilai, and Visakhapatnam. This is expected to generate thousands of new employment opportunities in sectors such as technology, management, logistics, real estate, and services, sparking a new wave of industrial growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boost to Industrial and Mineral Development<\/strong><br>Bastar is rich in iron ore and other minerals. The corridor will enable faster transportation of these resources to Visakhapatnam Port, boosting exports and trade. New industrial clusters are also expected to emerge along the corridor, promoting local manufacturing and economic expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tourism and Cultural Recognition<\/strong><br>Improved connectivity will attract more international tourists to Bastar. Popular attractions such as the Bastar Dussehra festival, Danteshwari Temple, Dholkal Ganesh, Kutumsar Cave, and the Chitrakote and Tirathgarh waterfalls will become more accessible. This will not only increase tourism revenue but also provide global recognition to the region\u2019s rich tribal culture and folk arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Balancing Environment and Engineering<\/strong><br>A 2.79-km-long twin-tube tunnel\u2014the first of its kind in Chhattisgarh\u2014is being constructed through the Manjhingarh hills in the Keshkal region of Kanker district. Passing through the eco-sensitive zone of the Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve, the tunnel has been designed to ensure that wildlife movement remains undisturbed. The highway will also feature monkey canopies, animal underpasses, and overpasses to maintain ecological balance alongside development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A Landmark Infrastructure Project<\/strong><br>The Raipur\u2013Visakhapatnam Economic Corridor, spanning approximately 464 km and built at a cost of around \u20b916,491 crore, is set to transform the economic landscape of Bastar and the entire state. This access-controlled greenfield corridor will serve as a bridge connecting tribal regions to the mainstream economy and global trade routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the corridor will open new avenues of development for Bastar and the state, reducing travel time and providing direct access to global markets.
