Raipur, April 2026 : The upgradation of the Gangrel Dam, officially known as the Ravishankar Sagar Reservoir in Dhamtari district, has gained momentum with the state government approving key repair and strengthening works. An administrative sanction of \u20b965.5 crore has been granted to enhance the dam\u2019s structural stability and ensure long-term safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative is aimed at extending the lifespan of the dam while reinforcing safety standards in line with modern dam safety protocols. With a focus on maintenance and durability, authorities have cleared several critical repair and conservation works to improve the overall performance of the reservoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the proposed plan, cleaning of vertical pressure drains and other essential maintenance activities will be undertaken. In addition to irrigation, the reservoir is also a key source of drinking water supply and supports industrial usage in the region. It contributes to power generation as well, with a capacity of 11.2 megawatts, making it an important multi-purpose infrastructure asset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the importance of the project, the district collector stated that the reservoir is not only vital for Dhamtari but also for the wider region. Ensuring its safety and sustainability remains a top priority for the administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
