It has the power to shape the future of West Bengal \u2013 Governor Ravi&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Nandigram &amp; Bhowanipore Assembly Constituencies, Suvendu Adhikari, called for peaceful polling as voting got underway in West Bengal during the first phase of Assembly elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said, &#8220;We are Hindus, we are Sanatanis. I offered prayers, offered a &#8216;naman&#8217;. I spoke to polling agents of my constituency. Polling should be held peacefully&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>BIRBHUM<\/strong> &#8211; Today (23rd April 2026) polling is underway at a polling station in Birbhum as voting began at 07:00 hours for the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections on Thursday, with officials confirming that arrangements are in place for a smooth process. Polling personnel and security forces were deployed early in the morning to ensure the orderly conduct of voting, with procedures being followed as per the Election Commission guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Birbhum\u2019s Presiding Officer Swati Sarkar Pal said that security and booth-level arrangements have been streamlined to facilitate voters. While briefing media personnel about the preparations. Today, he has asserted that extensive security measures have been<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>implemented, with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed at every polling station to ensure free and fair elections. They are determined to remove TMC, who is a disgrace to the CM&#8217;s chair and voters&#8221;. Describing the election as a crucial political battle, she said, &#8220;This is a war to save Bengal. We don&#8217;t want the politics of Hindu-Muslim. We want employment for the youth and bringing back 40 lakh people, who migrated from here, to come back&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying, &#8220;You (Mamata Banerjee) are a failure as a Chief Minister, and you must leave the seat&#8221;. Referring to women voters, she added, &#8220;Women of the country and this state have also realised who is one who actually stands with them&#8221;. Among the key contests, Asansol Dakshin is witnessing a high-profile battle. Agnimitra Paul is up against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Tapas Banerjee, the current MLA from Raniganj, who earlier represented Asansol Dakshin from 2011 to 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, the sitting MLA from Asansol Dakshin and Vice President of the party&#8217;s West Bengal unit, remains one of the most prominent faces in the constituency. Known for her active political presence and organisational role, she is seeking to retain her seat in what is expected to be<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a closely fought contest. The Asansol Lok Sabha constituency includes Pandabeswar, Raniganj, Jamuria, Asansol Dakshin, Asansol Uttar, Kulti and Barabani. It is considered politically significant due to its location in the state&#8217;s industrial belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PURBA MEDINIPUR<\/strong> \u2013 Leader of the Opposition &#8211; West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has exercised his electoral rights today early morning in Nandigram.
