A sensational unbeaten century from Sanju Samson and a four-wicket haul by Akeal Hosein proved decisive as MI were bowled out for just 104 while chasing a daunting 208.

After being put in to bat, CSK got off to a flying start, with Samson and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad launching an aggressive assault. The duo raced to 26 runs in the first two overs, taking full advantage of the powerplay. Gaikwad contributed a brisk 22 before falling early, but Samson maintained the attacking momentum, punishing MI’s bowlers with clean hitting.

CSK crossed the 50-run mark inside the powerplay, with Samson taking particular liking to Hardik Pandya’s bowling. Sarfaraz Khan added a quick 14 before being dismissed, while Shivam Dube failed to make a big impact. However, brief cameos from Dewald Brevis (21 off 11) and Jamie Overton (15) ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.

Through it all, Samson stood tall, anchoring the innings with remarkable composure and strokeplay. He reached his half-century in just 26 balls and shifted gears in the death overs. Displaying a mix of power and finesse, Samson brought up his century in 54 balls and remained unbeaten on 101, laced with 10 fours and six sixes, guiding CSK to an imposing 207/6. For MI, Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar were the most effective bowlers, picking up two wickets each.

Chasing 208, MI’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Danish Malewar fell early, edging a delivery from Hosein behind, while Quinton de Kock was clean bowled by Mukesh Choudhary for just 7. The pressure mounted when Hosein dismissed the in-form Naman Dhir, leaving MI reeling at 16/3.

With the top order back in the pavilion, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma attempted to stabilise the innings. The duo showed resilience, gradually rebuilding the innings and putting together a 73-run partnership. However, scoring remained difficult, and MI managed only 29 runs in the powerplay.

Just as the partnership began to look threatening, Hosein struck again, dismissing Varma for 37 and breaking the stand. The collapse resumed immediately after, with captain Hardik Pandya departing for a duck to Noor Ahmad, followed by the dismissal of Sherfane Rutherford on the very next ball.

Hosein then removed Suryakumar for 36, effectively ending MI’s hopes of a comeback. The remaining batting lineup offered little resistance, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah was the last man to fall as MI were bundled out for 104 in 19 overs.

Hosein was the standout performer with exceptional figures of 4/17, while Noor Ahmad chipped in with two crucial wickets. Gurjapneet Singh applied the finishing touches, sealing a comprehensive win for CSK.

This emphatic victory not only boosts CSK’s position in the points table but also highlights their all-round strength. For MI, the heavy defeat exposes ongoing inconsistencies, leaving them with significant ground to cover as the tournament progresses.

Brief Scores:
Chennai Super Kings 207/6 (Sanju Samson 101*, Ruturaj Gaikwad 22) beat Mumbai Indians 104 (Tilak Varma 37, Suryakumar Yadav 36) by 103 runs.

Mumbai, April 2026 : A dominant all-round performance saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crush Mumbai Indians (MI) by a massive 103 runs in Match 33 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
