Washington, April 2026 :<\/strong> US President Donald Trump has signalled that the United States could resume military action against Iran if ongoing negotiations fail, even as he maintained that he is in \u201cno rush\u201d to finalise a deal following weeks of intense conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking amid a fragile pause in hostilities, Trump said he could quickly reach an agreement with Tehran but prefers a more durable resolution. \u201cI could make a deal right now\u2026 but I want to have an everlasting,\u201d he said, warning that if talks collapse, the US would \u201cfinish it up militarily with the other 25 per cent of the targets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The remarks come after a US-led military campaign that Trump claimed had already inflicted heavy damage on Iran\u2019s defence infrastructure. According to him, nearly 75 percent of identified targets have been struck, significantly degrading Iran\u2019s naval, air and missile capabilities. \u201cWe\u2019ve hit about 75 per cent of our targets,\u201d he said, asserting that Iran\u2019s military had been \u201ctotally defeated\u201d within weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump also highlighted the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that Washington currently maintains \u201ctotal control\u201d over the critical oil transit route. He indicated that keeping the strait effectively closed is part of a broader economic pressure strategy. \u201cIf we open the strait, that means they\u2019re going to make $500 million a day. I don\u2019t want them to make $500 million a day until they settle this thing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President suggested that internal instability within Iran\u2019s leadership is further complicating negotiations. \u201cThey don\u2019t even know who is leading the country\u2026 they\u2019re fighting like cats and dogs for who\u2019s going to control,\u201d he remarked, portraying Tehran as politically fragmented in the aftermath of sustained strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite earlier projecting that the conflict could be resolved within four to six weeks, Trump refrained from committing to a timeline. \u201cI don\u2019t want to rush it\u2026 we have plenty of time,\u201d he said, arguing that Iran is under mounting pressure due to economic strain and disruptions to its oil exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged that the standoff could have short-term economic consequences for Americans, particularly in terms of fuel prices. When asked about rising costs, Trump said, \u201cFor a little while,\u201d but justified the impact as necessary to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is all about a nuclear weapon. They cannot have the nuclear bomb, and they\u2019re not going to have the nuclear bomb,\u201d he asserted, reiterating a long-standing US position on Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, Trump ruled out the use of nuclear weapons by the United States. \u201cNo, I wouldn\u2019t use it. A nuclear weapon should never be allowed to be used by anybody,\u201d he said, striking a more restrained tone on escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a humanitarian note, the President also claimed that US intervention had led to a reprieve for eight women facing execution in Iran, stating they would now be released following an appeal from Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
