Our Government will continue working to augment health infrastructure and ensure quality healthcare to the people.\u201d<\/em><strong>Shri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image0033JEE.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:225px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>World Health Day<\/strong>, observed annually on&nbsp;<strong>7 April<\/strong>, highlights pressing global health issues and mobilises action to improve public health outcomes.Started by the&nbsp;<strong>World Health Organization (WHO)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>1950<\/strong>, it unites governments, institutions, and communities in addressing critical health priorities each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>2025<\/strong>, the theme,&nbsp;<strong>\u201cHealthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong>launches a year-long campaign focused on&nbsp;<strong>maternal and newborn health<\/strong>, urging countries to end preventable deaths and prioritise women\u2019s long-term well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aligning with this vision, the&nbsp;<strong>Government of India<\/strong>, through the&nbsp;<strong>Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/strong>, continues to strengthen its commitment to&nbsp;<strong>equitable, accessible, and quality healthcare<\/strong>. Over the past decade, India\u2019s health sector has made notable strides through initiatives like&nbsp;<strong>Ayushman Bharat<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>National Health Mission<\/strong>, which have improved maternal and child health, expanded digital health access, and enhanced infrastructure and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has made substantial strides in improving India&#8217;s public health outcomes through various key initiatives and programs. The&nbsp;<strong>National Health Mission (NHM)<\/strong>&nbsp;has played a central role in this progress.To highlight these efforts and their impact, the following sections showcase key national health initiatives driving India\u2019s progress toward&nbsp;<strong>universal health coverage<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>health equity for all.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>India\u2019s Progress in Maternal and Child Health<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image004XMFU.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:258px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Maternal Mortality<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>MMR<\/strong>\u00a0(Maternal Mortality Ratio) in India dropped from\u00a0<strong>130 (2014-16)<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>97 (2018-20)<\/strong>\u00a0per 1,00,000 live births \u2013 a\u00a0<strong>decline of 33 points<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over the last 30 years (1990\u20132020),\u00a0<strong>MMR declined by 83%<\/strong>\u00a0in India.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Global comparison<\/strong>: Global MMR reduced by\u00a0<strong>42%<\/strong>\u00a0in the same period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Infant &amp; Nutrition Day (VHSND):<\/strong>\u00a0Monthly outreach at Anganwadi Centres for maternal and child care services in collaboration with\u00a0<strong>MoWCD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Outreach Camps:<\/strong>\u00a0Organized in tribal and difficult areas to deliver maternal healthcare, raise awareness, mobilize communities, and monitor high-risk pregnancies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Wider Access to Quality Health Services<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image009F1OO.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:367px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As of\u00a0<strong>5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April2025<\/strong>, there are over\u00a0<strong>1.76 lakh active Ayushman Arogya Mandirs<\/strong>(Health &amp; Wellness Centres) in India, providing comprehensive primary health care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to the portal,\u00a0<strong>107.10 crorescreenings<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>hypertension<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>94.56 crorescreenings<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>diabetes<\/strong>\u00a0have been conducted at the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wellness-related activities, such as\u00a0<strong>yoga, cycling, and meditation<\/strong>, are conducted in AAMs. As of 28<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0February 2025, a total of\u00a0<strong>5.06 crorewellness sessions<\/strong>, including\u00a0<strong>Yoga<\/strong>, have been undertaken at AAMs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of 30<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0November\u00a02024, there are\u00a0<strong>17,000+\u00a0<\/strong>government health facilities certified under the\u00a0<strong>National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS),\u00a0<\/strong>a framework by the Ministry to ensure continuous quality improvement and patient-centric care in public health facilities<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Digital Health Interventions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image010U3WK.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:455px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)<\/strong>\u00a0is a unified digital health ecosystem to securely connect patients, healthcare providers, and systems through an interoperable digital infrastructure.<strong>As of April 5, 2025, over 76 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been created under the ABDM<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>There are over 5.95 lakhverified healthcare professionals registered under the ABDM Scheme, with over3.86 lakh verified health facilities.Under ABDM, more than 52 crores health records are linked.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>U-WIN<\/strong>\u00a0is a digital platform that streamlines and tracks immunization for pregnant women and children (0\u201316 years), enabling flexible, anytime-anywhere vaccine access under the\u00a0<strong>Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of 15th December 2024,\u00a0<strong>7.90 crorebeneficiaries<\/strong>\u00a0have been\u00a0<strong>registered<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>1.32 crorevaccination sessions\u00a0<\/strong>have been held, and\u00a0<strong>29.22 croreadministered vaccine doses<\/strong>\u00a0have been recorded on U-WIN.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>eSanjeevani<\/strong>, India\u2019s\u00a0<strong>National Telemedicine Service<\/strong>, bridges gaps in healthcare access by providing free, equitable, and remote medical consultations, emerging as the\u00a0<strong>world\u2019s largest telemedicine platform for primary care.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of April 6, 2025<strong>, e-Sanjeevani<\/strong>\u00a0has served over\u00a0<strong>36 crore patients<\/strong>\u00a0through\u00a0<strong>teleconsultations\u00a0<\/strong>since its launch in 2020, making healthcare accessible remotely with\u00a0<strong>232,291 providers onboarded<\/strong>to date<strong>.<\/strong>There are<strong>131,793\u00a0<\/strong>spokes operationalizedand<strong>17,051 hubs\u00a0<\/strong>established, with<strong>130 specialities<\/strong>under e-Sanjeevani.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Disease Elimination &amp; Control<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>WHO World Malaria Report 2024<\/strong>\u00a0highlights India\u2019s\u00a0<strong>major strides<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>malaria elimination<\/strong>, with a\u00a0<strong>69% drop<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>cases<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>68% reduction<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>deaths<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>2017 and 2023<\/strong>. Contributing just\u00a0<strong>0.8% of global cases in 2023<\/strong>, India\u2019s exit from\u00a0<strong>WHO&#8217;s High Burden to High Impact (HBHI) group<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>2024<\/strong>marks a significant public health achievement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Government of India has\u00a0<strong>eliminated Trachoma as a public health problem in 2024<\/strong>, a feat recognised by the\u00a0<strong>WHO<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Government of India\u2019s proactive\u00a0<strong>Measles-Rubella vaccination drive<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>strong surveillance<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>public awareness efforts<\/strong>\u00a0have greatly improved public health. As of\u00a0<strong>March 6, 2024<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>50 districts<\/strong>\u00a0reported no measles cases and\u00a0<strong>226 districts\u00a0<\/strong>saw no rubella cases in the past year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to\u00a0<strong>WHO\u2019s Global TB Report<\/strong>, India has made strong progress in tuberculosis control. Under the\u00a0<strong>National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP),<\/strong>\u00a0TB incidence fell by\u00a0<strong>17.7%<\/strong>, from\u00a0<strong>237 to 195 cases per lakh population<\/strong>\u00a0between\u00a0<strong>2015<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>2023.<\/strong>\u00a0TB-related deaths also declined from\u00a0<strong>28 to 22 per lakh<\/strong>. Notably, missing TB cases dropped by\u00a0<strong>83%, from 15 lakh<\/strong>\u00a0in 2015 to\u00a0<strong>2.5 lakh in 2023.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>As of 6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April, 2025<\/strong>\u00a0the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched in September 2022, has registered over\u00a0<strong>2.5 lakh Ni-kshay Mitra volunteers<\/strong>\u00a0supporting over\u00a0<strong>15 lakh TB patients<\/strong>. This initiative has further been expanded to include family members of TB patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kala-azar Elimination:<\/strong>\u00a0India has successfully achieved Kala-azar elimination as of October 2024, with\u00a0<strong>100% of\u00a0<\/strong>endemic blocks reaching the<strong>\u00a0target of less than one case per 10,000 population by\u00a0<\/strong>the end of 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Affordable Health Coverage for All<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image011J35F.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:341px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Under\u00a0<strong>Ayushman Bharat &#8211; PM Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY<\/strong>):<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of December 20, 2024, over\u00a0<strong>55 crore beneficiaries<\/strong>\u00a0from India\u2019s economically vulnerable population in the bottom\u00a0<strong>40%<\/strong>\u00a0arecovered with\u00a0<strong>\u20b95 lakh<\/strong>\u00a0health insurance per family.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over<strong>40 crore Ayushman Cards<\/strong>\u00a0have been issued as of 3rdApril 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over\u00a0<strong>8.50 crore authorised hospital admissions<\/strong>\u00a0throughout the country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Overall,<strong>\u00a031,846 hospitals<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>17,434 public<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>14,412 private<\/strong>)have been officially empanelled under the scheme as of 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0April 2025.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ASHA and Anganwadi workers<\/strong>\u00a0are now included as\u00a0<strong>beneficiaries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Over\u00a0<strong>25 lakh+<\/strong>enrollments for\u00a0<strong><em>Ayushman Vay Vandana\u00a0<\/em>Cards\u00a0<\/strong>under the scheme as of December 9<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Mental Wellness Health Interventions<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image012ZGFM.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:381px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tele-MANAS<\/strong>\u00a0(National Tele-Mental Health Programme)now operates\u00a0<strong>53 cells<\/strong>\u00a0across 36 States\/UTs, offering\u00a0<strong>24&#215;7 mental health support<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>20 languages<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of\u00a0<strong>5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2025,<\/strong>\u00a0over\u00a0<strong>20 lakh calls<\/strong>\u00a0have been handled, with more than\u00a0<strong>230 crores allocated<\/strong>\u00a0to NTMHP in the\u00a0<strong>past three years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of<strong>5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2025, there are around 440 Rehabilitation Homes (RH)\/Halfway Homes (HH) in the country as per the\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em>Manoashraya<\/em><\/strong>Dashboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Towards a Healthier Future<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India\u2019s advancements in public health, especially in maternal and child care, reflect a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive healthcare. Through transformative initiatives like&nbsp;<strong>Ayushman Bharat, the National Health Mission,&nbsp;<\/strong>and targeted maternal programs such as<strong>&nbsp;JSY, PMSMA, SUMAN, and LaQshya,<\/strong>&nbsp;the country has significantly reduced maternal and child mortality rates and improved institutional delivery access. Complemented by digital health interventions like&nbsp;<strong>ABDM and eSanjeevani<\/strong>, disease elimination drives, and mental health support through&nbsp;<strong>Tele-MANAS<\/strong>, India is steadily progressing towards&nbsp;<strong>universal health coverage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strengthening Indian Healthcare for a Resilient Future \u201cOn World Health Day, we express gratitude to all those who work to make our planet healthier.
