Officials from the <strong>National Institute for Locomotor Disabilities (NILD)<\/strong> also participated in the audits. Recommendations were made to improve accessibility wherever needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following locations were visited and assessed during today\u2019s Sugamya Yatra:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Govt. Sihphir Higher Secondary School<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College of Veterinary Sciences &amp; Animal Husbandry<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IGNOU Regional Centre, Aizawl<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mizoram ICFAI University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Govt. Primary School-II, Durtlang<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of India launched the <strong>Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan)<\/strong> with the aim of eliminating physical barriers faced by persons with disabilities in public spaces. Under this initiative, the <em>Sugamya Yatra<\/em> was started in 2015 to assess and improve accessibility in buildings such as educational institutions, government offices, and public infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These audits focus on making facilities more inclusive through the installation of <strong>wheelchair ramps, lifts, tactile signage<\/strong>, and other accessible features to ensure that persons using wheelchairs, those with visual impairments, and others with disabilities can access services without hindrance. The <em>Sugamya Yatra<\/em> is being implemented across the country with active involvement of audit teams and persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Mizoram, the campaign was launched on <strong>21st February 2025<\/strong> through a joint initiative by the Office of the PwD Commissioner and NILD.
