New Delhi, Nov 2025 :<\/strong> India\u2019s digital payments ecosystem continued its rapid expansion in October, with Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions recording double-digit growth both in volume and value, according to data released on Saturday by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As GST 2.0 reforms advance, UPI logged 20.70 billion transactions<\/strong> in October, marking a 25 per cent year-on-year increase<\/strong>. The value of these transactions also rose sharply, reaching \u20b927.28 lakh crore<\/strong>, a 16 per cent annual growth<\/strong>. Month-on-month, UPI transaction value climbed from \u20b924.90 lakh crore<\/strong> in September, underscoring continued adoption across consumer and merchant segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform also showed impressive performance in daily activity. The average daily transaction amount<\/strong> in October rose to \u20b987,993 crore<\/strong>, compared with \u20b982,991 crore<\/strong> recorded in September. Similarly, average daily transaction volumes increased to 668 million<\/strong>, up from 654 million<\/strong> a month earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The momentum follows a strong September, during which UPI posted 31 per cent year-on-year growth<\/strong> with 19.63 billion transactions<\/strong>, and a 21 per cent monthly increase<\/strong> in transaction value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While UPI continues to dominate, other digital payment channels also saw steady traction. Instant Money Transfer Service (IMPS) transactions grew 2 per cent year-on-year<\/strong> in October to \u20b96.42 lakh crore<\/strong>. Month-on-month, IMPS value rose 6 per cent<\/strong> from \u20b95.97 lakh crore<\/strong> in September. The daily IMPS transaction value<\/strong> also increased from \u20b919,895 crore<\/strong> in September to \u20b920,709 crore<\/strong> in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The broader trend reflects India\u2019s accelerating shift toward cashless transactions. Data released earlier this week shows UPI processed 106.36 billion transactions<\/strong> in the first half of 2025, registering a robust 35 per cent year-on-year increase<\/strong>. The total value of these transactions reached an extraordinary \u20b9143.34 lakh crore<\/strong>, according to Worldline\u2019s India Digital Payments Report (1H 2025)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major driver of this growth has been the rise in person-to-merchant (P2M)<\/strong> payments, which increased 37 per cent<\/strong> to 67.01 billion transactions<\/strong> in the January\u2013June period. Analysts attribute this surge to the \u201cKirana Effect<\/strong>,\u201d as small and micro-retailers increasingly adopt digital payments for everyday transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s QR-code payment ecosystem has also expanded at a remarkable pace. The number of QR codes in circulation more than doubled to 678 million by June 2025<\/strong>, marking a 111 per cent growth<\/strong> since January 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
