He wants me to go there. We\u2019ll figure that out. I\u2019ll go\u2026 He\u2019s a great man and I\u2019ll be going,\u201d he said. Pressed further on whether the visit could take place next year, Trump added, \u201cIt could be, yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump also fondly recalled his last trip to India in February 2020, when he and First Lady Melania Trump were hosted by Prime Minister Modi during the \u201cNamaste Trump\u201d event in Ahmedabad. \u201cI had a great trip there with the Prime Minister,\u201d he said, describing it as one of the most memorable international visits of his presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US President additionally claimed that India has \u201clargely stopped buying oil from Russia,\u201d a statement made in the broader context of discussions on global energy markets and geopolitical alignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump\u2019s comments come just days after the White House underscored the strength of India-US relations under his administration. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, responding to questions earlier this week, said the President holds \u201cgreat respect\u201d for Prime Minister Modi and maintains regular communication with him. \u201cHe feels very positive and strongly about the bilateral relationship,\u201d she said. \u201cI know the President has great respect for Prime Minister Modi, and they speak pretty frequently.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leavitt also revealed that Trump\u2019s trade team is engaged in \u201cvery serious discussions\u201d with Indian officials to resolve long-pending issues and move toward a new trade understanding. \u201cThe President and his trade team continue to be in very serious discussions with India with respect to that topic,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Press Secretary pointed to recent developments as evidence of the administration\u2019s commitment to strengthening ties with India. These include the White House Diwali celebration last month, attended by senior Indian-American officials, and the appointment of Sergio Gor as the new US Ambassador to India. \u201cHe will represent our country very well,\u201d Leavitt said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 21, Trump hosted a special Diwali event at the White House, where he described Modi as \u201ca great person\u201d and reiterated his admiration for the people of India.
