Jaipur, January 2026 :<\/strong> After Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam, Ajmer DISCOM has also taken significant steps towards becoming defective-meter free. The Beawar and Ajmer circles of Ajmer DISCOM<\/strong> have now been declared zero defective-meter circles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar<\/strong> presented certificates to the Superintending Engineers of these two circles at Vidyut Bhawan, recognising their achievement of becoming zero defective-meter circles. On this occasion, he also awarded certificates to the Superintending Engineers of five Jaipur DISCOM circles\u2014Jaipur District Circle (South), Alwar, Tonk, Deeg and Dholpur<\/strong>\u2014which had already achieved the zero defective-meter status by the end of December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Beawar, Tonk and Deeg circles achieved this milestone across all consumer categories, including agriculture<\/strong>, while the Ajmer, Dholpur, Alwar and Jaipur District Circle (South) successfully replaced defective electricity meters of single-phase urban, single-phase rural and three-phase (non-agricultural) consumers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congratulating all the Superintending Engineers, the Energy Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma<\/strong>, the state government is fully committed to making Rajasthan a leading state in the energy sector. He said that eliminating defective meters will improve consumer services and enhance the efficiency of distribution companies. He added that Ajmer and Jodhpur DISCOMs are now moving ahead in mission mode to become completely free of defective meters<\/strong>, calling it an important step towards ensuring transparency in billing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rajasthan DISCOMs Chairperson Aarti Dogra<\/strong> said that over the past year, engineers, technical teams and field staff of Jaipur DISCOM have worked with dedication, discipline and commitment to make all 18 circles in the non-agricultural category defective-meter free<\/strong>. This achievement has also inspired Ajmer and Jodhpur electricity distribution companies. She said the success would be sustained in the future as well. Ajmer DISCOM Managing Director K.P. Verma<\/strong> was also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After becoming zero defective-meter circles, consumers in these areas will now receive electricity bills based on actual consumption<\/strong>, which will significantly reduce complaints related to incorrect billing. Under existing provisions, if a meter remains defective for more than two months, consumers are entitled to a 5 per cent rebate on electricity charges<\/strong>, resulting in revenue loss to the corporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to defective meters, Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam had to grant electricity charge rebates of \u20b99.41 crore in 2022\u201323<\/strong> and \u20b95.41 crore in 2023\u201324<\/strong>. This was reduced to \u20b92.04 crore in 2024\u201325<\/strong>, and in the financial year 2025\u201326<\/strong>, the burden has come down to just \u20b916 lakh<\/strong>, which is expected to be reduced to zero in the coming months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
