The Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) two newly elected MPs are poised to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance as it prepares for its third consecutive term at the Centre, confirmed the party led by N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday. Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, 36, son of former TDP leader and Union Minister Yerran Naidu, will be sworn in as the youngest-ever Union Cabinet Minister today in the Narendra Modi-led Union government.
Meanwhile, Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, a doctor by profession and one of the wealthiest candidates in this election, will also take the oath as the Union Minister of State, TDP announced. Ram Mohan Naidu has represented the Srikakulam Lok Sabha constituency in Andhra Pradesh since 2014, while Pemmasani has won from the Guntur Lok Sabha seat. Previously, the seat was held by Jayadev Galla, who congratulated Chandra Sekhar on his new role as Minister of State. “Such an honor to serve the nation at the central level during your very first political stint.
The people of Guntur and the entire AP are proud of you. All the best for your new role. May you bring positive changes and make a meaningful impact,” said Jayadev. Chandra Sekhar, the richest Lok Sabha candidate in the country with declared family assets of over Rs 5,705 crore, secured a victory by defeating his nearest rival Kilari Venkata Rosaiah of the YSR Congress Party by over 3.4 lakh votes. He completed his MBBS from Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad in 1999 before moving to the US for post-graduation.
Meanwhile, Ram Mohan Naidu, the son of former Union Minister late K.Yerran Naidu, clinched a hat-trick from the Srikakulam constituency in the just-concluded elections. As the national general secretary of TDP, the 37-year-old is regarded as one of the key loyalists of party president N. Chandrababu Naidu, poised to become the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
With 16 MPs, TDP stands as the second largest party after BJP in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and two more MPs of the TDP are likely to be inducted into the Narendra Modi-led Cabinet.
