Tehran, September 2026: Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters on Sunday warned that any new US military action against Iran would trigger retaliatory strikes against American bases and interests across the Middle East.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the country’s central military command said it had received information indicating that Washington, with the support of certain regional countries, had decided to resume military action against Tehran following a recent meeting in Europe. Iran did not publicly provide independent evidence for the claim.
The headquarters warned that if the United States took military action against Iran, all US bases and interests in the region would become targets of what it described as “continuous, effective and painful” strikes without limitation or reservation.
Iran also issued a warning to regional countries that it accused of supporting US actions. The statement said countries that aligned themselves with what Tehran described as American aggression should not expect the same level of restraint from Iran’s armed forces.
The warning followed reports of a confidential meeting in Germany involving senior military commanders from the United States, Israel and several Arab countries. According to Axios, the meeting was organised by US Central Command chief Adm. Brad Cooper and included military chiefs from Israel, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and Egypt.
CENTCOM confirmed that senior military leaders from eight nations attended a scheduled conference in Germany, saying the discussions focused on opportunities to strengthen security cooperation in the Middle East. Axios reported that Cooper reassured participants that US forces would remain in the region despite Iranian attacks on American bases and briefed them on plans concerning shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The developments come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States and wider instability across the Middle East. Tehran’s latest warning adds to a series of statements from Iranian officials threatening retaliation against US interests if Washington launches another major military operation.
Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Tehran would not return to the previous framework of negotiations with Washington or agree to reopen the Strait of Hormuz unless its conditions were met.
Qalibaf said Iran’s demands had been communicated to Washington through intermediaries. He said Tehran expected the United States to recognise what Iran considers the “legitimate” rights of the Iranian people and fulfil its commitments before negotiations could resume.
Iran’s position reflects the competing military and diplomatic signals emerging from Tehran. While its military command has threatened severe retaliation against any renewed US attack, senior political officials have continued to discuss conditions under which negotiations could take place.
The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the confrontation because of its importance to global energy and maritime trade. Iran’s refusal to reopen the waterway until its conditions are addressed has added another dimension to the wider regional crisis.
The latest warnings come as Washington considers its next steps and regional governments assess the security implications of the continuing confrontation. Any renewed military action could further increase tensions involving Iran, the United States, Israel and Gulf countries, while also complicating diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the conflict.
