The Khelo India Para Games is scheduled to take place from March 20–27, 2025, across three venues in Delhi. It is expected to witness the participation of approximately 1,200 athletes, 200 technical officials, 150 volunteers, 350 support staff, 300 escorts, and 20 classifiers, representing 36 States and Union Territories across the country. Opening Ceremony: A Celebration of Spirit and Unity The opening ceremony of the Khelo India Para Games 2025 was a vibrant and inspiring affair, held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. Dignitaries, athletes, and spectators gathered to witness the commencement of this prestigious event. The ceremony began with a captivating cultural performance that highlighted India's rich heritage and diversity. Notably, Pranav Soorma from Haryana set a new Asian record in the club throw event, achieving a distance of 33.54 meters and surpassing the previous record of 31.09 meters held by Dharambir. Archery: Armless archer Sheetal Devi captivated audiences with her precision and focus, securing gold in the women's recurve event. Her performance was a testament to resilience and mastery of the sport. Badminton: The badminton courts witnessed intense matches, with para-shuttlers from various states competing fiercely. Parul Parmar showcased her dominance by clinching the women's singles title, adding another accolade to her illustrious career. Table Tennis: In table tennis, Sumit Sehgal of Haryana emerged victorious in the men's Class-4 category, defeating Ramesh Chaudhary of Gujarat with a straight-set win of 11-8, 11-7, 11-8. Swimming: The swimming competitions highlighted the prowess of athletes like Niranjan Mukundan, who secured multiple gold medals across various events, reinforcing his status as a leading para-swimmer in the country. For a moment, I even forgot to breathe—not because I was scared, but because I was in awe! Everything was calm and peaceful, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. Even in the quietest corners of the Himalayas, I never felt such stillness. After 40 minutes, we came back up, but I wished I could stay longer! The best part?       A Young Diver’s Perspective Jia Chandra, a 10-year-old first-time diver and a student at Army Public School, Hyderabad, shares her first scuba diving adventure: "At first, I was really scared. The thought of going underwater, where everything is different and unknown, made my heart beat super fast. And what scared me even more? The fact that I couldn’t call out for help if I needed to! As I got into the water with my scuba gear, I held onto my instructor Johnny and my Papa, along with another diver, tightly with my eyes. They were my safety net. But as I slowly sank, I felt a tiny 'pop' in my ear, and suddenly, I started feeling more comfortable. And then, just like that, I was floating deep under the sea! The world down there was like a dream! I saw bright, colorful fish swimming around me in perfect groups, like they were dancing. The coral on the ocean floor looked like a giant, colorful painting that moved with the water. Tiny crabs crawled over rocks, and fish nibbled on the coral. It was like a fairy tale come to life! For a moment, I even forgot to breathe—not because I was scared, but because I was in awe! Everything was calm and peaceful, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. Even in the quietest corners of the Himalayas, I never felt such stillness. After 40 minutes, we came back up, but I wished I could stay longer! The best part? They took photos of me underwater and gave them to me for free! I had my action camera, but it was so cool to have pictures of myself actually diving.
