Amlu’s income increased due to bumper production of chilli.

Shri Amlu, a progressive farmer of village Larangi of Shankargarh block of Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, has 02 acres of land and his family profession is farming. Shri Amlu used to do farming in a traditional way, but due to various natural disasters and lack of advanced technical knowledge, the production was so low that it became difficult to meet the family expenses. Apart from this, the future family responsibilities also looked bleak. Amlu says that by cultivating chilli, my source of income is increasing and my financial condition is improving. Seeing this passion of Shri Amlu, the nearby farmers are also getting inspired to adopt horticultural crops.

To increase his income, Shri Amlu went to the horticulture department of the block one day and contacted the officials and discussed about the advanced technology of farming. He was told that a training and tour program has been organized under the National Horticulture Mission Scheme being run in the block. By participating in this training program, Amlu decided to do intercropping along with vegetable production. He got chilli seeds from the Horticulture Department and cultivated chilli in his 02 acre field, for which he had to spend 80 thousand rupees. Along with this, he also received a grant of 20 thousand rupees from the Horticulture Department for cultivating chilli.

With the hard work of Shri Amlu and the help of the Horticulture Department, there has been a bumper crop of chilli, which has brought smile on the face of farmer Amlu and increased the source of income. He told that about 100 quintals of chilli were obtained from farming, whose market value is 02 lakh 30 thousand rupees. After deducting the expenses, Amlu got a saving of about 01 lakh 50 thousand rupees.
