Chief Minister Meets With Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union Leaders

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma held a meeting at his office with representatives of the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union, during which they discussed various issues and challenges faced by the union. The meeting was attended by Pu Vanlalhlana, PWD and Transport Minister, Pu TBC Lalvenchhunga, Adviser to the CM (Finance), and key PWD officials.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister acknowledged that this year India has experienced heavy rainfall and flooding. He emphasized that, despite their efforts, the state has faced significant difficulties in maintaining road infrastructure due to a lack of sufficient funds. He reassured the union leaders that the government is aware of the hardships caused by the floods and is committed to taking immediate action. The Chief Minister also mentioned his plan to personally inspect the Kawnpui to Khamrang road, which is currently under urgent maintenance, by the earliest opportunity.

The Kawnpui to Khamrang road, a crucial route for Mizoram’s development, is being repaired by Satguru Construction and is expected to remain under maintenance until May 2026. Due to the ongoing repairs, the NHIDCL is unable to take over the project, and the maintenance work will continue as scheduled.

The government has allocated a maintenance fund to the Mizoram PWD account, following the renewal of contracts. Both central and state funds are being utilized to ensure the project’s success. To expedite the work, the contractors have been provided with 20 dump trucks to facilitate the process.

In response to the disruptions caused by poor road conditions, the Sumo service providers have requested that alternative routes be created to ensure safe travel. The government is expected to support this initiative to help alleviate the challenges currently faced by the Sumo service operators.

Regarding the road between Kawlkulh and Hliappui in Manipur, the government has handed over the construction project to new contractors under PMGSY-3. The contractors have also been provided with JCB machinery to speed up the roadworks.

The Commercial Vehicle Union raised several issues during the meeting, including the challenges posed by poor road conditions, increased fuel prices, taxes on heavy vehicles, fitness testing procedures, and the frequent inspections of private cars from other states. The union stressed the importance of addressing these concerns promptly.

The government assured the union that their concerns would be addressed and solutions would be implemented as soon as possible.
