Death Toll from Heavy Rains in Sudan Rises to 53

TEHRAN – The death toll from heavy rains affecting several Sudanese states has risen to 53, according to Sudan’s Health Ministry.

Xinhua reported on Saturday that the ministry’s Autumn Emergency Room recorded 208 injuries, 53 deaths, and noted that 9,777 families have been impacted. The rains have affected nine states, resulting in the complete collapse of over 2,000 houses and partial collapse of more than 4,000 others.

Flooding in Sudan, which typically occurs between June and October, is an annual event. Over the past three years, these heavy rains have claimed hundreds of lives and devastated large areas of agricultural land.
