Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally inspected this approximately three and a half kilometers long stretch today (July 10, 2024).

The third phase of the coastal road project, extending from Haji Ali (Lotus Junction) to Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg, will officially open on July 11, 2024, at 7 am. This phase will facilitate traffic during weekdays, Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 11 pm. To facilitate completion of the remaining works, this section will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. A temporary route has been provided to access the sea bridge.

Present during the inspection were Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Dr. Amit Saini, Deputy Commissioner (Special Engineering) Yatin Dalvi, Chief Engineer (Mumbai Coastal Road Project) Girish Nikam, Deputy Chief Engineer Mantaiya Swamy, along with other engineers and officials.

At the start of the tour, Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Administrator Mr. Gagrani briefed Chief Minister Eknath Shinde about the project and the phased implementation of routes. The approximately 3.5 km stretch from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Ghafar Khan Marg in the north direction has been completed, and this road will be temporarily opened from 7 am tomorrow, July 11, 2024, for public convenience. This route provides direct access to the Sea Bridge. (To reach the Worli and Prabhadevi areas, normal routes via Dr. Annie Besant Marg and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg should be used.)

Speaking to the media, Chief Minister Shinde highlighted that the Mumbai Coastal Road Project plays a crucial role in addressing Mumbai’s traffic issues. As various phases of the project are completed, they are opened to traffic, ensuring smoother traffic flow amidst ongoing construction activities. Shinde mentioned that 91 percent of the entire coastal road project has been completed to date.

Through the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, the Dharmaveer, Swaraj Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road (South) project is being constructed from Shamaldas Gandhi Marg (Princess Street) Flyover to the end of Rajiv Gandhi Sea Bridge (Bandra Worli Sea Link). As of now, 91 percent of the project work has been completed. The remaining works, including inter-passages, roads, and the sea walkway, are in their final stages.

To alleviate traffic issues and for the convenience of citizens, completed phases of the project are being opened sequentially. Initially, on March 11, 2024, the 9.25 km long South Canal route from Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk (Worli) to Marine Drive was opened for southbound travel.

Following this, the second phase, approximately 6.25 km from Marine Drive to Lotus Junction via Haji Ali, was opened on June 10, 2024, facilitating northbound travel. Now, the third phase covering about 3.5 km from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg is being temporarily opened to further enhance citizen convenience. This results in a continuous stretch of 9.75 km from Marine Drive to Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg available for northbound travel. Upon reaching Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg, access to Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link (Worli Bandra Sea Link) will be possible, providing direct connectivity to Marine Drive and the sea bridge. For travel to Worli and Prabhadevi areas, citizens are advised to use regular routes via Dr. Annie Besant Marg and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg.
