Greater Hyderabad to be developed as a “Clean City” on the lines of Indore

• MA & UD officials to visit Indore soon
• CM warns of stern action against road contractors in GHMC for work delay

Chief Minister Sri A. Revanth Reddy directed the officials to envisage plans to promote Greater Hyderabad as a wonderful “Clean City” on the lines of India’s cleanest city Indore. State Municipal Administration and Urban Development ( MAUD ) officials have been asked to visit Indore and conduct a study on the systems and procedures adopted for the maintenance of the clean city. The Chief Minister asked the officials to find out the agencies and voluntary organizations involved in the systematic maintenance of the Indore city. Apart from holding discussions with the agencies and joining them as partners to develop Hyderabad into a clean city, the officials will also study the mobilization of income resources by the Indore Municipal Corporation for the maintenance of the clean city.

CM Revanth Reddy conducted a review on the development of Hyderabad and also progress in the road works, footpaths, cleaning and other works taken up under the GHMC limits at the secretariat on Friday. Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Adviser to CM Vem Narender Reddy, GHMC Mayor G Viayalakshmi, MLA Jayaveer Reddy, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Principal Secretary Municipal Department Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner Amrapali, Special Secretary to CM Ajith Reddy and other high officials participated in the meeting.

The Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of the construction of 811 km of roads, which was taken up under the strategic road development program in Hyderabad five years ago, and the poor maintenance of the roads. In view of the fact that the contract agreement will end in December this year, the Chief Minister ordered the authorities to take action against the contract agencies which failed to complete the works and proper maintenance of the roads. The CM wanted all the road works to be monitored and repaired immediately. The CM asked the officials to submit a complete report to him within 15 days regarding the contractors who have not completed the work so far. Action will also be taken against the officials if they submit false reports, the CM warned.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the GHMC should focus on garbage collection along with the proper maintenance of the roads. The authorities were asked to develop a mechanism for the supervision of garbage collection from every house regularly by using new technology like GIS and QR scan, if necessary. The Chief Minister also advised the officials to make clear plans for the mobilization of funds for the ongoing works in GHMC without financial challenges. Temporary adjustments will be made for the payment of the pending dues. The GHMC officials are instructed to find ways to increase revenues and also plug the loopholes in income generation. A close monitoring mechanism on the revenues from GHMC properties rents, advertisements and hoardings will also be strengthened.

The Chief Minister ordered the officials to speed up the work of the Musi Riverfront Development Project. The CM made it clear that the displaced persons from the Musi catchment area will be provided rehabilitation and resettlement. The displaced should be given the assurance of rehabilitation without giving a scope of injustice to them. The CM ordered the officials to visit the resettlement colonies and inquire about the necessary infrastructure created in the habitations.

As the Cherlapally railway station is being modernized, the Chief Minister directed the officials to develop the approach roads leading to the station from the surrounding areas. The CM asked the officials to acquire the lands belonging to the Forests and Industries departments in the vicinity immediately. The industries will be shifted to another place. All the approach roads will be designed to allow parking and develop a commercial junction in front of the station.
