Kisan Diwas will be celebrated in the state on 9th September to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Balram Ji, who is considered the god of agriculture. Kisan Diwas is being organised under the joint aegis of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Raipur, Department of Agriculture Development and Farmers Welfare and Biotechnology and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Chhattisgarh Province. This programme will begin at 12:00 noon in Krishi Mandapam of Agriculture College, Raipur.

On the occasion of Kisan Diwas, a one-day state level workshop on the subject of “Natural and Cow Based Agriculture” will also be organized at Indira Gandhi Agricultural University, Raipur. Subject experts on natural and cow based agriculture will make the farmers aware of the concept of “Natural and Cow Based Agriculture”, its techniques and the benefits derived from it. More than 2 thousand farmers from various districts of Chhattisgarh will participate in this state level workshop. On the same day, Shri Balaram Jayanti-Kisan Diwas celebrations will also be organized in 27 Krishi Vigyan Kendras operating in various districts of Chhattisgarh.

It is noteworthy that in Indian culture, cow products such as cow dung and cow urine have been used in agriculture since ancient times. Cow based farming is a method of chemical and pesticide free agriculture in which farming is done in a traditional way by following the rules of nature and adopting the principle of indigenous farming. Natural farming increases nutrients in the soil as well as expands biological activities, which increases the fertility of the soil and reduces the cost of farming.
