Public Holiday for Eid-e-Milad Shifted to 18th September Instead of 16th; Notification Issued

Mumbai : Among the 24 public holidays notified by the state government, Eid-e-Milad was initially scheduled for Monday, September 16, 2024. Eid-e-Milad is a significant religious festival celebrated by Muslims with large processions. However, since Anant Chaturdashi, a major Hindu festival, falls on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, Muslims in Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, and some other districts have decided to hold the Eid-e-Milad procession on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to maintain peace and social harmony between the two communities.

As a result, the public holiday for Eid-e-Milad, initially declared for Monday, September 16, 2024, in Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, and nearby districts, has been canceled and will now be observed on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. An official notification regarding this change has been issued.

In addition to Mumbai city and its suburbs, the Collectors of other districts across the state will decide whether to maintain or cancel the public holiday on September 16, 2024, depending on when the local Muslim communities plan to hold the procession. The General Administration Department has informed that the concerned District Collectors should declare a public holiday on September 18, 2024, if necessary.
